It may not be a necessity but I like it because you can release the tailgate after opening it and it won’t free fall to the fully open position. Also, it was super easy to install it.
I just checked my recalls I now have that recall listed as a software update along with the turn signal one from a few months ago. I haven’t noticed anything wrong in either case so not in any rush to have them done.
One reason I can think of is many states with toll roads or electronic sensors use licenses as a back up for payment. Someone can print a picture of the license and crooks can put it on a vehicle. Not saying they do that but in theory.
Ok once again I’m convinced FMC doesn’t have a clue what the design is. If you look online and open the owner’s manual on the top the information there says 32 mph. Open the second from the top that opens the on line manual it says 25 mph
