My biggest worry with this EV is something I haven't seen anyone talk about yet and that's the software. I owned 2 Mavericks and I thought the software was fine. Then I bought a Tesla and I realized that the software in a maverick was complete crap. Software in an EV is just as important if not more important than anything else about the vehicle. If Ford doesn't get it right then people are not going to be happy.

Thanks guys. I think the actual truck will be a little taller and less sporty than that, but it's in the ball park. I was also told by someone who saw it that the nose is a little lower, so I might need to make some tweaks.
lower front line would be nice, its easy to forget about an obstruction if its out of sight( especially a toddler! worst nightmare harming a child)

Amen. I will never buy one, same with a hybrid. We have nothing but trouble at work with hybrids and EVs.
our telecom co, had had hybrid escape for years and 200K trouble free miles( just sayin' prejudice creates a lot of trouble in the vehicle, some haters will actually try to destroy a vehicle that's not theirs,I remember an old 70 model Ford ton truck,so much abuse and after it was given away it was still trouble free, the 360 had "iron guts" one prick made the brags,he was going to blow up that Ford!( he didn't get it done)

Part of my disdain for EVs is the way some of us who prefer internal combustion engines, especially the high-performance variety, feel they are being forced upon us. For those who truly want an EV, by all means go for it.

Retired software engineer here. You are spot on. I do love what Ford is attempting, and I hope they clear that hurdle. One thing us Maverick owners suffered last year was Ford and the backup camera supplier battling over the fix for the camera recall.

Currently, pretty much every controller on the Maverick contains software written and owned by a supplier. All Ford sees is an API. It's a black box that is not under Ford's control.

With the new vehicle, if they did the software stack correctly, most of that software is now Ford written and Ford controlled. And that means your first awareness of a recall is when you get a text saying "Hey, we're recalling your truck for XYZ. We fixed it last night while you were sleeping".

I'm extending a lot of trust that Ford will get it right. But as I understand it, they brought in the Silicon Valley crowd to create that software stack (ditto Rivian, ditto Tesla), so that's encouraging. I worked with that crowd for my last decade in the field. They are sharp and maniacally focused.

Still, it's a lot of software that has to be almost perfect on day one.

less tall, more longerer I think. Less upright seating. Very
To be fair, according to some people who've seen it, it's unconventional, but not terrible looking. An AI rendering based on mules, and the description I've received. High beltline, short sloping hood, creases over the fenders. The rear of the cab angles down slightly which this rendering doesn't have.

It's a little shocking, but I don't hate it if it's like this. Very ute ranchero like..

If it looks exactly like that I am surprised they are not calling it the Mustang MachT

You'll be happy to know the head engineers of this new Ford affordable EV platform were the same minds that were leading the engineering on the Tesla model 3 and Y. So really smart people. Ford also hired some software engineers from companies like Apple.

That's interesting. By and large Ford hybrids and EVs are generally really reliable. But then again you might be owning another brand. I've heard iffy thing about Honda hybrid reliability for instance.

The blue sketch? That's not it, but the silver one on the right I think is pretty close.
I'll just say that the prototype that I saw did not have those extreme fender bulges. It was very much an aero design. Low, long hood, smallish frontal area (compared to the Mav), smooth sides, low hood, high belt line. They didn't allow us to bring in phones, so I'm going by memory.

I agree the lines over the wheels won't be as exaggerated on the actual truck, but you can see those lines running over the wheels with a bit of flair if you look closely at these images. But it'll be toned down. I guess view my rendering as the fantastical designer rendering, tone it down, and you get closer to what the finished product will look like.

Overall, what was your impression seeing the truck? Did it look good/cool/interesting, kinda just ok, not overly stylish but not ugly, or was it pretty bad looking? Talking to someone else who saw it at a dealer meeting, he said the truck itself looked good, but the add on accessories looked kinda ugly. I'm very curious to hear what your impression was.

The long hood is interesting, it looks short on the prototype.

Wow, it looks like a Maverick. Why not buy a Maverick. I've driven other hybrids, and the Maverick is the best drive for me.

Well, if you want an EV, I imagine you would choose Ford's EV truck over the non-EV Maverick because it's an EV.

I would say it was "OK" looking. Not really a standout for design that people will drool over. I think it will be more of a functional vehicle. I may be emphasizing the long hood more than it really should be. It's probably just an average length, but I remember thinking that it had really good forward visibility and that was probably more due to the way the hood slopes down and the low dashboard.
