Europe has much higher safety and emissions standards than the USA does and yet the Chinese are moving in fast in Europe. Safety is not an argument as each local/domestic market sets the standards and the Chinese would have to meet it to compete in said markets.

Subaru could and should compete in this space, but only if it is a Hybrid or Plug-In Hybrid, and they get that from Toyota. Automakers can't compete in every space in the market but they also tend to be a bit myopic. I would have bought the SC had it a Good Performing (MPG) Hybrid Option...
The calculations made by the computer in the car are almost useless if you want accuracy on a whole tank of gas. The only way to achieve that accuracy is to take number of miles driven, divided by gallons of gas used, usually best done fillup to fill up.
I can get my dash gage to read 75 MPH...
