We insurance investigators had an inside joke... The loudest sound in the world was not the squeak, rattle, thumping, bumping or fracking sound the owner could hear after the repairs were completed after a "new" car's first accident. It was the owner's wife screeching "I've never heard THAT SOUND BEFORE, after the second accident.

The reason for this thread was honestly one of the reasons I avoided getting a new car for so long and a fear for when I take delivery.

I LOVE when the honeymoon period ends with my cars and I can stop caring about scratches / dings / dents. It's freeing!

I'm hoping that my middle aged mind has adapted past my youth and can just keep the DGAF attitude even when the Maverick comes.

All cars should maybe come pre-dinged. Just to relive the owner of the burden of feeling they could have done anything to prevent it 🤔.

I got 4” scratch on the drivers door on the second day I had my truck. First trip to the grocery store and when I came out I saw it. Definitely got hit by a shopping cart.

My bed and tailgate is scratched up as well. Not worried about them as I’ll eventually get a spray in bed liner.

Yesterday had a black walnut fall off the tree and put a dent in the hood. Already showed to the PDR guy. Having it fixed on Monday.

Had mine 4 days and got a windshield ding, had it sealed the next day $40. A week later lowered my tailgate and the Dee Zee assist popped out, scratched the paint and the cheapass bolt stripped trying to reinstall it. DeeZee totally silent on my request for a new one, ended up removing the assist entirely (have since read they similarly fail all over the place, on variety of vehicles) will live without, and ordering touchup paint.

All within the first two weeks. Grrr, but also.. well, at least the first bruises are done.

On March 10, 2023 (would have been a year of ownership as of 4/7/23) after doing a road trip to Asheville to see Thumpasaurus in concert at the Asheville Music Hall (cool venue if you ever go) the return trip home was brutal: lots of traffic on 95 South, and as soon as we were an hour outside of Florida the skies opened up on us and didn't stop, making it difficult to drive at night. Made it back to my friend's house in one piece, but when I backed out of her driveway I nudged the group of mailboxes in the roundabout and left a perfectly square 2" dent in my tailgate. It's not deep, it's not scratched, and it won't ever rust, but man...it's there! It's like getting a huge pimple right before prom!

I'll post a pic later. Hoping it's something that a body shop can just pull out and won't charge me much. Haven't priced it out yet.

Backed into the handle on my garbage bin. Barley rolling when I tapped it 🤦‍♂️. Looking down the street to make sure cars were not coming and forgot it was garbage day. There is a PDR shop close to my house and have not decided if I'm going to get repaired or just consider the truck having character now....lol.

None yet, but I have slammed on my brakes when backing up a few times after wondering “How close am I to that?”
Most times? Pretty close…..

I have a ding on the front passenger door, but there is no gouge or scratch, so I wonder if it happened at the factory before paint. It is about the diameter of a pencil eraser and hard to find, so I don't lose sleep over it.

I have a small chip on my windshield from gravel, which happened on the Alcan highway.

I had a small chip in the paint above the left taillight, but it touched up so well it is difficult to see. I'm glad, because this one bothered me.

Lots of scratches in the bed, it's a pickup and is used like one.

Had my mav ceramic coated. Wouldn't take it to a car wash. Wouldn't let anyone borrow it and in one month got a ding in the door at the hospital parking lot. Now I'm over it and can treat it like a truck. I'm free!!!

Found this after work today. No note of course. Looks like it is just the plastic so I will try to push it out later.
Whoever did that is lower than pond scum. Scratches and small dents are bad enough, but damage like that is hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to fix. I bet whoever did that drove off without a thought in their empty little head.

If your parking lot at work is full of your coworkers cars, walk around and see if any of their cars have suspicious looking dents that you didn't notice before.

Here's mine, just the clear coat it looks like. Looks more noticable in direct sunlight.
