Are we sure this isn't a software issue? I've only been getting the Remote features disabled message since the latest update. My son has an Escape and he is now getting the same message on his app. His is not a hybrid.

The problem is not the battery, although the destroyed battery due to sulfation is the symptom. The OEM T4 battery is big enough to get the job done, but a lot of EcoBoost owners have put a bigger one without understanding that the battery size is not the problem. A bigger battery does not resolve the software issue. The BMS software has a broken algorithm that only ever charges the battery to about 70%, causing the sulfation. After that it goes into a really low trickle-charge mode, feeding about 1/4 of the amps required to get the battery to full charge where the sulfation would not occur. That algorithm might be appropriate for a lithium battery type, but not for any type of lead-acid battery chemistry. If you drive a couple of hundred miles then maybe it would get to 90% charge. Fords workaround is to give you an AGM battery, which is more resistant to undercharging sulfation in order to get you past the point of getting a new battery under warranty. Instead of fixing the faulty BMS code, they standardized of the AGM battery problem-hiding solution starting in 2025, hiding the issue, and started putting AGM batteries in under warranty for the 22-24 models that originally had the EFL one. Its a band-aid instead of the correct BMS algorithm fix in order to reduce their warranty claims. Ford still has not released a corrected BMS module update, and released the ACCM update to fix a small part of the issue.

I would have bought another one in a heartbeat but at the time the Ridgeline would have cost me $8000 more and wasn't a hybrid
I bought a Nissan Frontier after having owned 8 Fords because it seemed like the logical choice at the time. The gas mileage sucks, and so does the cruising range, which is one of the reasons why I'm looking at getting a Maverick. Going 280 miles on a tank of gas sucks in the southwest where gas stations can be few and far between.

But the delta between paying more for a more fuel efficient vehicle didn't make sense unless I drove more than 20,000 miles a year. Other than that, the depreciation hits worse than the fuel cost, but at least the Frontier's problems are well-documented, parts are cheap, and it's not inherently unreliable.

Frontiers and Ridgelines depreciate like rocks compared to other trucks, so there are some real bargains to be had on the second-hand market.

I'd had an '86 Tempo and '96 Windstar that were both good vehicles, so that figured into it as well.
That's availability bias that is, unfortunately, basically meaningless. Different platforms, factories, engineering teams, and company era. Might as well be comparing a Ford to a Dacia.

Had my 2022 Lariat go into "deep sleep" mode yesterday afternoon at about 48,700 miles and 2 years and 5 months of ownership. Drove it in the morning on a couple of short 10-minute trips, parked it around noon and it was in DSM at 1:15pm. Had to jump-start it to get it going. Four other short drives (5-10 minutes) the rest of the day after getting it out of DSM. Check engine light was on for the rest of the day but did not come on this morning. Will wait and see what happens.

I hadn't followed this issue in a while. Any other "late bloomers" out there?
I don't use the app, so unknown whether in "deep sleep". However, I haven't had open-door interior lights for 6 weeks or more--noticed it lately after Daylight savings switch, for evening commute. Planning a dealer visit during Christmas break.

Well, had my second instance of DSM occur after the Mav sat over the weekend from about 2 on Friday until 6:30am on Monday after about 1500 miles since the last instance, so I suppose it's time to shop for an AGM battery.

Anything unusual about a battery swap on a Maverick compared to an ICE? Is it just the standard, vehicle off, disconnect terminals, reconnect terminals and off you go?

Any resetting of things or using some combination of buttons/controls to get things back to normal?

Since the battery is in the cabin, please make sure of the following:

1.) the replacement battery has the vent tube connection. located on the top side of the battery.
2.) make sure you reconnect the vent tube for proper ventilation.

Good day @Pop2020

Have a look at your manual...I have added a page from my manual for reference. There are clear directions on changing your battery properly, resets etc.

It isnt like the old days where we could just get the biggest battery we can fit!

I and others have included our thoughts in many threads as to how to do the battery relearn (after thoroughly recharging your battery over several days using a good quality battery charger of at least 4-5 amps...FLA or AGM...new smart chargers can do both but check to make sure). Directions are included in the manual but they are a bit vague, so we just flesh out the instructions a bit.

If you want the instructions just ask. I feel we all need to properly charge our batteries and then perform a battery relearn to show the system what a good charged battery is supposed to be charged to.

Have a good one,

Andy

Good idea is to put smart charger 3-5 amps on 12v for 3+days every 3-4 months and then run the battery learn procedure with truck locked for 12 hours. Friday 5pm through Monday 6 am better than not at all.

Yes, as specified in your owner's manual. You have to make sure that put in the new battery in a fully-charged state, reset the BMS state (ignition on but not started, 5 headlight flashes, 3 brake pushes and wait 10 seconds for the battery symbol on the dash to flash 3 times), and then lock the doors and let it sit for at least 8hrs without touching anything. This process allows the BMS to learn the new battery characteristics and supposedly optimize charging for it. Its B.S since the BMS software is broken, but that's what they claim. Also, if you have a Hybrid, you can't use a bigger battery and need to match the T4 battery type in order to fit in the tray under the rear seat, and you have to hook up the battery breather tube to blow off-gassing and acid onto the ground underneath.
They use the same battery size in a lot of Nissan and Toyota vehicles, but the T4 size is a bit hard to find in aftermarket stores at present. An H4 will also fit, but its a bit taller.
If you're still under the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty, then the battery replacement at the dealer is free to you. Make sure that they put in an AGM battery instead of the original EFL one, as an AGM battery is somewhat more resistant to the sulfation damage caused by the BMS fault that they have still not released a fix for 2 years after it was promised.

Ford replaced my 12v battery last week under warranty, finding a "bad cell". I noted on the work order (but not actually eyeballed) that the replacement was an AGM. The original was plain flooded (eyeballed). They also did some recall updates; instrument panel, wiper motor.

It solved the "no dome lights upon door opening".

Other than these software updates messing with some instrument panel stat preferences (Inst MPG/Avg MPG/miles/Remaining miles, all good.

You should be good for at least a year.

Any newish battery would have solved the issue. While new.

Read the work order again - look for ACCM update, or AC module update.
You want that one - just in case. If not - call them up and ask why not.

And make sure you park it soon while it has a fuller charge - for the BMS Relearn - locked for 9 hrs no accessories installed.

Left my Maverick at the airport on Saturday. Sunday I got a deep sleep notification. We get back late Friday and temps are supposed to be around -15. How screwed am I?
