I guess if you live in a heavily populated area with strong signals a stubby would be ok. I live in western nowhere New Hampshire. 😜 We usually get 1 or 2 songs tops before having to hunt for another station. With that maybe I need to get a big whip antena so we can get stations longer! 😁
Don't even tell me to streem Sirius. As soon as we get a weak signal, its gone.
Spotify loads a little more ahead and can sometimes keep playing, but only if my phone is up on the dashboard for good signal. 😉
Sirius is the only thing I miss about not having a Lariat.
Sirius is one reason I'm getting a lariat.

The stubby gets abysmal reception. It was significantly worse than stock, especially for HD radio.

What is this AM/FM you are speaking of old timer? Time to break out the 8 tracks and CDs like my great grandparents used to use!

Just kidding. I am old too. But today’s music sucks. I would rather stream “mellow 80s gold” on amazon music.
I would have $$ for a BUILT-IN CD player even single disc. (Before the drones start in about, the plug-in ones. NOT INTERESTED )
My phone isn't one of my appendages like it is for a lot of folks.
Quite often, I leave it on the kitchen counter. That and I do not have unlimited data for android auto. I'm not going to sit and download a couple hundred CDs onto my phone, if it can be done.

I do also stream music at times. For me it's the 90s

yeah but you would be bucking the fad 😎 and not being one of the cool kids 😉
Im a ginger squatch, being a cool kid was never an option. Between not having a grey or greyish truck, getting the too tall topper, and putting even more orange seat covers in my Tremor. I think I rest in the end of the spectrum of Maverick owners who stands out in the crowd.

Normally, at least regarding reception, a longer antenna would be helpful (though a 30-31" whip antenna is generally a good match in relation to the wavelength of the FM radio range, being 1/4 of a wavelength long). But, on my F-150, I ended up getting a shorter antenna so that it would fit in my garage without hitting the door frame. It also hit the ceiling beams in the parking garage downtown. So it was a little tradeoff - gave up having a full 1/4 wavelength antenna so that the truck could be parked in the garage.

With AM radio, ideally, you'd need a much longer antenna. Which isn't really practical. So instead, they "load" the antenna with a tuned coil or loop of some sort to get some reception. But in general, the AM band ideally would work best with an antenna several feet long.

I'm noticing that these Mavericks don't seem to have a regular whip antenna. Guglielmo Marconi would not approve.
The garage reason I can understand, maybe not so much of a need on Mavericks, but reasonable. I grew up when it was sweet to have an antenna on your van that you bent back and tied down to the rear bumper though.

The stubby is only to use the roof rack, IMO. I kept it on because I'm 95% streaming and too lazy to switch it out each time I want to put a board on the roof. Certainly I knew it was a downgrade going into it.
Mine seems to flex fine under my racks. Had a 12ft long 2x12 on there last week and it just folded under and listened to the radio all the way down into the holler where we live. I will say the Maverick radio is the best reception I have had in a vehicle in a long time.

My CB dual bumper mounted antennas used to drag along the bottom of the canopy above the bank drive-thru.

Thanks for all the input on that.
I get all sorts of stations here in "flat" NWOH: Classic rock, Pop, Country, NPR, Classical Religious and Talk.
As I use a portable CB on my Spyder RT reverse trike, adding a longer antenna doubled my reach in reception, as well as transmission. So it makes sense to use a longer antenna, as long as it compatible with the stereo unit, if needed.

I'm in the same boat. My 2010 Civic has a CD player that was my main source of music. My wife and daughter keep pushing apple car play, and I briefly considered getting a satellite receiver.

Ended up burning my CDs to a USB drive - mostly works good. Pablo Cruise, Player, Firefall, and Looking Glass live on!

I would probably go with the cds on my phone or usb stick if I really listened to music much. If I am not listening to an audiobook, a lot of the time I just have the radio off. Yes, I said it, I listen to audiobooks. I am a NERD!🤓
