I use a CarPlay app called Radio to stream my local station with a very weak signal. Works great from anywhere with a cell signal.

I would probably go with the cds on my phone or usb stick if I really listened to music much. If I am not listening to an audiobook, a lot of the time I just have the radio off. Yes, I said it, I listen to audiobooks. I am a NERD!šŸ¤“
I guess I am a nerd too! I drive OTR. Listen to a book a day +/-. Radio plays the same few songs over and over. Radio gets old. Yes even sirius, but at least with sirius there are lots of alternative stations.

The stubby gets abysmal reception. It was significantly worse than stock, especially for HD radio.
Mine works fine. I get all the local stations with no issue, including HD Radio signals.
It's the Cravenspeed one, are there knockoffs that get worse reception?

Where I live, I barely get radio reception with the OEM antenna. I'm certainly not going to make it any worse with a stubby. I rarely if ever listen to commercial broadcast radio anymore. But I do listen to NPR from time to time.

And I never notice the antenna that's on there. Hell, vehicles have had radio antennas for a decades.

I don't mind the looks, length or reception of the original antenna, although I wish it were more flexible. I worry the car wash drop down air dryer would put enough presure on it to break the plastic piece it fits into. It hasn't yet, though.

I bought a replacement from Amazon, labelled as "Very flexible", that turned out to be just as stiff as the original, so threw it right in the junk drawer.

I used to commute 1:45 each way to work. Listened to a lot of books back in the day. My kids hate when I listen to audiobooks though. I click the speed up between 1.5x to 1.75x they always want me to slow it down and it just feels like they are talking so slow.

This was one of the first changes I made to my truck and my stubby after 2 years works just fine! If you buy cheap it will cost you!!!

Until, GM started installing their antennas in the windshields.
I never own one. I had heard, that they had terrible reception.

What did you use? I would like even better reception than OEM.
I bought one from the internet, it's a metric thread & don't remember which one, but it came with a couple different adapters if needed, I think it's 5mm, but would have to check to make sure.

Like many of you, I was excited to mod my mav. I have done a lot of things, and I owe all of you a writeup of my rig with pictures and links. One of those mods was a stubby (or at least the Autozone knockoff).

Sadly, the reception of one of the better radio stations in my area truly went downhill, and there were times the static was so bad, I had to find a different station.

So, recently, I realized I donned the stubby, and that might have been my problem. I put the original Maverick RC antenna back on, and… my station was back! I went for a long drive, and listened to such classics as ā€œFat Bottomed Girlsā€. It was a nice evening.

I can’t go back to the stubby.
I've ordered a longer antenna than the OEM because I enjoy listening to local radio as I travel. You really get insight into the places that you don't live in.
