Like many of you, I was excited to mod my mav. I have done a lot of things, and I owe all of you a writeup of my rig with pictures and links. One of those mods was a stubby (or at least the Autozone knockoff).

Sadly, the reception of one of the better radio stations in my area truly went downhill, and there were times the static was so bad, I had to find a different station.

So, recently, I realized I donned the stubby, and that might have been my problem. I put the original Maverick RC antenna back on, and… my station was back! I went for a long drive, and listened to such classics as “Fat Bottomed Girls”. It was a nice evening.

I can’t go back to the stubby.
Thanks for the inspiration. I gave my poor reception "Amazon ONE250 2.5" stubby the bum's rush today. Uninstalled it and reinstalled the OEM, in preparation for a 1000 mile road trip. If I end up using the roof rack, it will only be locally at my destination. I'll just unscrew it then. Maybe I'll catch some college radio.

I put a stubby on about two months ago and have had good reception since then. In town (Colorado Spring) and on the 60-ish mile drive to Denver I lose reception to the normal station about the same distance away. I like mine.

Here's my .02
If you mostly stream music and rarely listen to radio, sure get rid of the OEM antenna. I did the same. There's no reason to replace it with the stubby antenna even, especially if you live in a larger metro. I'm in the Bay area and I get perfect radio reception without any antenna.

Honestly, spending on a stubby antenna is a waste of money.

I went to an Amazon stubby, absolutely no difference from factory antenna.

I could never go with stubby as I like to listen to sports while driving. I would really be ticked off if they take AM radios out of new vehicles like I have heard is a near future possibility

Benefits of a STUBBY:
1) It's small but functional.
2) It performs quite well in the cities where all the action is.
3) You never have to worry about getting stuck in tight spaces.
