How hard can it be to add shift up/down buttons and a display that shows the current gear?
The trans is the one big thing I can not bring myself to trust. Mine has always shifted hard at slow speeds in low gear, especially when it's cold out. And it does not like to up shift when coasting.
Yeah I was happy at first with the tranny after our highlander but now it's just annoying when I ask for power with a downshift and it's just wondering how to make that happen.
My biggest gripe as well. It hunts worse than Elmer Fudd. Previous trucks I had with the ability to switch into manual mode made a huge difference. The one thing I really hate though is it feels like hill descent is permanently on especially at low speeds.

Honestly it's the one reason I do not plan on keeping the Maverick beyond my warranty.

Almost makes me wish I had gotten a non 4k variant. The only ones I've seen mention this issue are the ones with 4k Mavs.

Is it the Cobb unit that lets you adjust shift points ?

What'd be your next choice if you don't mind me asking?

No idea. Sorry.

I think I'm going a different route once the warranty is done. Very interested in the new Camry's.

There really isn't much competition for the Mavericks tbh. It's either mid sized trucks or a Hyundai ute. We'll see where the next gen Mavericks land and what happens over the next 5 years though. I might go back to having two vehicles and one being an older truck for the few tasks I use it for anymore, probably a 2500. Lots can change in 5 years lol.

The Cobb AccessPort does have OTS maps for the transmission, which does improve driving. I have actually been working on a transmission tune for the AccessPort as I wanted a little more than what the OTS map offered.

I don't think that there is a transmission in existence that hunts more than a Honda does. That's one of the big reasons why I got a hybrid. Its one-speed transmission is essentially a differential, extremely well tested by both Toyota and Ford in about a million vehicles over about the last 20 years, and has no gears or clutches to wear out. It doesn't hunt, shift gears, wear clutch packs or anything else that a hydraulic transmission does. The Atkinson-cycle engine used in the hybrid is another strong point brought over from Mazda engineering. However, Ford messed up the crankshaft machining on a couple of hundred of them and their missing QA/QC efforts missed it. The Engineering guy should have bought a hybrid and talked about advancements in drivetrain design instead of getting an Ecoboost that has the same well-tested drivetrain as a 2013-up Fusion AWD. Just why did he abandon his dreamcar Subaru?

I'm waiting for his in-depth explanation for the best use cases of the display cubby.

With almost 4 million subscribers on his automotive based channel, he could own anything he wants. VERY HIGH PRAISE that he decided to own a Ford Maverick.

Only thing odd is that he wouldn't have sprung for the Hybrid, being a pragmatic Engineer and gushing over it in the video. Must need the 4x4 capability in his climate over fuel savings.
Or, he may need to be faster than his buddy in the Raptor.

As an engineer myself (I work with gas turbines)... I didn't learn anything about the Maverick's actual engineering from that video.

Neat that his 2.0 is faster off the line than the 6.2 F150, though. Really cool. Not something I care about, remotely... but cool.

Curious if the 2.0 ecoboost gets better mileage than his manual Crosstrek. He didn't even comment on that, other than to say the hybrid is definitely "better" - but that's not what he's driving.

I always wonder about this. Will my Mav beat a high end Sierra or F150 off the line at a stop light? I'm guessing a raptor or zr2 will smoke the maverick? This is really important for my ego 🤦‍♂️

I really enjoyed the driving experience of the hybrid, much more than I had expected. And a big consideration was the MZR engine, and the fact that I had one for over 250,000 miles with no issues.
I lost the lottery on some of the QA/QC issues however. Had there been sufficient support early-on from Ford or I had competent service departments involved, it would have been a different story on my part.
Hopefully, the big issues have been sorted. Early adopter woes.

I was neck & neck against an F150 Lightning at the ferry terminal yesterday... didn't really have a chance to "hit it", though. LOL. Probably was for the best.

Disclosure - I'm not a fanboy. Don't even like my Maverick all that much, though I do respect it as a solid-if-two-doors-too-big appliance So I was curious what my favorite auto engineering guy thought about his new Maverick.
For someone who doesn't like their Maverick you sure spend a ton of time on a Maverick forum. 58 Threads and almost 1300 messages. 🤔🤔

unbeatable maverick hybrid for $20K
40K? No
I got the full-zoot Lariat hybrid; cost right around $36k with all the trimmings (tonneau cover, sunroof, etc). In today's market I consider it a great value, especially considering I'm saving +/- $150 a month in gas. Of course an XL or XLT are even better values if you don't want/care for all the tricks, but in my case I buy a new car every 10-13 years/250k miles and want the toys....
