I honestly think the Maverick is the same as the original Ford Taurus- a turning point.

The value and utility matched with the price point are unbeatable. There are some tradeoffs of course- cheapness in some areas (interior, wire cover behind rear seat, and others). I'm kind of surprised there's been little hate over production outside of the US/Canada, but that is going to gain traction as long as Ford can make profit doing so.

The Taurus was the first car in the US with plastic headlights- which changed cars in the US forever. If you remember the round or square headlights which were mandatory before, you know. The word "aerodynamics" became a thing. Standard features in the Taurus compared to a car before were amazing.

Oh and talking about the "potent Ford Mustang V-8" of back then- the Taurus SHO model was revolutionary in price, performance, and "Above 100 mph, the aerodynamically superior SHO steadily pulls away from the Mustang."

I would call the Maverick a "breakthrough car" just like the Taurus SHO, Mustang, 240z, and Accord listed in the article.
The Original Taurus was nothing like anything in it's class, it stood out. The Maverick stands out because of Price. There is nothing revolutionary about the Maverick. IT's a Hybrid, it's based off the Escape, the Taurus was not based on anything Ford has in it's line up. So, how can Ford make money on the Maverick? It's a Hybrid, traditionally, Hybrid sell for more then ICE Vehicle. So, how is Ford able to sell a Hybrid truck that is based on the Escape for less then a Hybrid Escape? I personally think that Ford has their back into a corner here, they dropped all of their cars (except for the Mustang) for SUV and Trucks. They do not have a entry level vehicle to attract new (younger) buyers into the brand. Ford tried the Ecosport, and failed with it. So they offer the Maverick XL at 20K which was cheaper than the Ecosport!! But we know for 2023 the price will increase...

I do feel Ford is losing money producing these hybrid trucks. Maybe there's really no constraints but maybe they just don't wanna sell it at a loss. Specially since they know people could flip it and make money off them.

Somebody probably got let go in the marketing and pricing department for this. I won't be surprise if they discontinue the Maverick at this price point and with just regular hybrid. Maybe a plug in that starts at 35k or an electric that starts at 40k...

I LOVED my little 1996 S10 despite all of the drawbacks - tiny cab, single sliding seat (a problem when I'm only 5'2" and my passengers are tall), underpowered motor. I never fell in love with the full size truck I owned a few years ago. There's just something appealing about the usefulness of a truck without having to deal with parking and gassing up a full size beast. The price Ford is selling the Mavericks for is just one more thing to love. It has so much to offer for the price.
Had a 97 sonoma - basically the same. 5spd, 2wd, 4 cyl, regular cab. Super handy. Mav seems like it will be better in essentially every aspect. Can't wait.

It's a bit more than price. Name another pickup that gets in the 30s mpg, let alone the 40s!

Yep, no doubt about it. 40+ MPG is TOTALLY revolutionary!

It definitely hits a market. I've been driving SUVs and lately a Jeep Wrangler because I needed to be able to haul things around (Namely my drums when I was still playing out), and pick up supplies for small home DIY projects.

A truck would have always been a better solution, but I just don't want or need a full size truck. The Maverick would fill that role perfectly.

Now if they would ever open up the ordering again. :p

This is true, but the point is, Hybrids cost more then non hybrids.

Cool = Eye of the beholder.

I was all set to purchase a Kia Soul. Aways thought these were kinda cool.

Maverick little truck has a bed serves me better. Hybrid don't care. Thought I would try it though. If I get bent over by dealer (hope not) Kia Soul it will be.
Kia Soul was my backup plan. Now that I finally have my Maverick and I see Souls out on the road, I'm really happy I didn't let my impatience rule my decision-making process. Thrilled with my Maverick! The wait was worth it. I've had it a week now and I'm consistently getting 29mpg...and that's CITY DRIVING!

Agree, Mav is my first choice. Just so dealer honors my Z plan with no games. Z-Plan same as A-Plan but for retirees.

I finally got around to REALLY looking at my paperwork, and actually came out a few hundred dollars LESS than anticipated on the DORA form.

To me it’s cool because it’s better 2000s ford Ranger when it comes to looks. It pretty much my generations new small truck. The small truck industry is for people who like trucks but don’t like 600 dollar truck payment per month or don’t want get bent over at the gas pump . A lot people don’t need 2500 super duty or even f 150 . The ford ranger in 2000s meet those people’s demand.
