Engine runaway at startup

For the second time at start my Maverick engine went to beyond full throttle to redline and bouncing off the rev limiter. This time it lit the check engine light. The next time it happens, I'm walking away and letting it self destruct on YouTube. There are too many unsafe bugs on this truck and I've lost confidence driving it. I'm looking to trade for an Equinox EV.

Are you driving when this happens? My Maverick hybrid rarely immediately fires the ICE when I push the start button. Usually after I start driving unless I sit for awhile, I don't use remote start. Have you had the dealer check it out?

I assume it's had all the software updates performed ?? But bottom line, if you've lost confidence in it, your better off trading it for something else that you feel will give you peace of mind and confidence. Good Luck in whatever you decide is best for you!

Sounds annoying. I suppose the selling dealership isn’t offering any assistance? Does your State have lemon laws if they cannot find a solution?

I wonder if the runaway engine experience, has anything to do with possibly inadequate repairs being done after your accident in February or the replacement wireing harness?

Pedal in park can't rev that high.
And it doesn't start until you hit 65% pedal press.

Try it next time you get home before shutoff.

At startup. Dealer didn't reverb return my voice mail this week. So I'll drop by Monday. The third time it does this, I'm gathering my valuables and walking away. Then I'll let fate take over. There's only 400 miles of factory warranty left so I'll park it tomorrow until the dealer acknowledges the issues.

That's correct HeyBales, no change. Just like the Fusion that I had, with lots less bugs and glitches. Same 12v battery issue, just not as bad as the Maverick.

Nothing is on the floor mat but my foot. I tried stomping the accelerator and the shifter was locked. I just unlocked the truck, climbed in and pressed the brake pedal and then START button. Then VROOOOOOM! VROOOOOM! VROOOOM! VROOOOM! Bumping off the rev limiter at least 6,000rpm then fuel cut, then full throttle again every 1/2 second. I held the START button in until it shut off.

I've had all updates and recalls performed and after two weeks the dealer told me to pick up my truck. He said that the tech that's qualified to work on it "forgot" to perform several checks and repairs then went on vacation. He then gave notice and left. They kept my ticket open until they have a tech to repair it. It's been close to a month now and I won't drive the truck any more. I found another dealer that I can drop off my truck to next week to look at the bugs and failures. It's 8 miles from the 36,000 mile warranty expiring. I'll load it onto my car hauler and drop it off there. I just have to unload my car hauler, because it's got my deck material on it. While swapping out the tires and wheels to OEM, I found several e-brake wire standoff clips broken off from the previous repair of replacing the right rear axle assy, so I'll address that as well. Sloppy, hurried work with no concern of liability since he knew he was leaving that dealership. It's clean and ready for a new home after I address these issues should I decide to. If they can get the bugs worked out, I'll hang on to it for a couple more years. If they refuse or give me a hard time, then I'll drop it like a hot potato.

Just letting you know you could probably drive it to a dealership.

That third dealer is about 50 miles away, and I took delivery with like 1.6 miles on the truck. I still don't have my car hauler unloaded, and I still haven't driven the Maverick on the road. I've been busy building my home and working full time.
