This looks like an issue in some sensor, the fact that you crank but has no ignition looks like some module is cutting ignition, turn off and on again resets it. Should be something simple... but a read in the DTC would help a lot.

No DTC codes - that's strange. Need to see what if any code(s) is/are stored. In a way unfortunate that it's 'captive' at your dealer. Would have cost you but a 3rd party "mobile" tech with OBD scanner (or maybe even Ford's Mobile Service program?) could have checked it in your driveway to at least see what if anything your OBD system had in memory. It could be almost anything but betting money I think is one of the "P" codes (P0087 or any of the related ones, P02xx, P06xx, etc).

Sorry to hear it will take 3 weeks to even look at it. The mechanic shortage can be solved but it requires better compensation to the mechanics which translates to higher labor cost to the customer. Also since I was in high school in the 70s the push that everyone needs a college degree has led to the trades being looked down upon by the younger generations and a shortage of trades people. Fortunately it is turning around but with community colleges charging young people to learn them instead of the public vocational schools of the past.
On his channel, Sandy Munro has been throwing tirades about the death of vocational education in the USA. We dug our own grave with that. What's gonna be interesting is watching all the college grads get replaced by AI over the new few years. Happening now. My field was software engineering - and right now they're being fired (or not hired) by the tens of thousands in favor of AI coding agents.

It runs for 5 seconds abouts. May be more posts than you read.

I know, what I'm talking about is this:

The interesting thing is that turning the key to start again just cranks with no ignition
He starts the truck, it runs for 5 seconds then it turns itself off, *if he tries to crank again, it cranks, but doesn't start.*

If the ignition was not turned off after the truck turns itself off, looks to me that some module turned it off based on some incorrect measure/failure. If you turn ignition off and turn on again, it starts, so the module must reinitialized and allowed it to run again, after 5 sconds it "detects" the same issue and turn itself off again.

That's what I think is happening.

Agreed, needs a reset after the computer thinks it did a safety routine on a bad problem. Shoot, it does it on several things that aren't really safety either.
Probably like this issue:

We had a 2013 2.0EB that had a defective high-pressure fuel sensor telling the computer that the pressures were 120psi higher than they actually were. It would hot-stall after about 20sec, right after I pulled into traffic. No codes were ever shown, as the computer thought all the pressures were ok. We had it in to the dealer 5 times for the problem over that period and they never figured it out. They replaced the two fuel filters for $280 each time, claiming that was the problem 3 times. After 5 years of this, we got upset with them and had the dealer check the real injection rail pressure, and they replaced the failed $120 sensor and the stalling never happened again.

Spot on.

Maybe by using a scanner to monitor some sensors, could gather more information if a sensor goes out of bounds or something like that.

Happy update from the dealer tech - they will look at it earlier than promised, inside one week, not three. He is guessing a quick and easy warranty repair. Unless an animal chewed through a wire, in which case I pay.

My res HVAC tech said 8 years ago his training school cost $5k now it's costing $25-$35k.

Glad you'll know something sooner than later.

Daughter in Socal had a 'somewhat' similar issue with her 2019 Honda Fit. It quit suddenly on her. Couldn't get it to stay running. She told me she hadn't gotten a dash code (I was skeptical but chose to believe her). Took to Honda dealer. While she was being towed I asked her - "shows there is a low pressure fuel pump recall for your car, did you ever get that done?" I got the expected answer ("yeah I remember getting something in the mail about that, sort of forgot about that...").

At the dealer they did find a P0087 code in memory (in history, not active, so I guess that can happen). But sadly tried to sell her a HP fuel pump replacement (and infamous "induction cleaning service") before even mentioning the need to do the LP fuel pump recall.

Ford Maverick Ecoboost runs 5 seconds and shuts down - rodents chewed through wires Fit1

I advised her - tell them to do the friggin' recall first, and then see how (or if) it runs, any new codes, etc. They did that (could be accessed/replaced by dismantling the center console, didn't have to drop the gas tank, took a couple hours). Seemed to fix things.

You do have to be real careful these days that you're not flagged as someone being gullible in the ways of the auto repair world. Other advice to daughter was, in Socal must be a gazillion independent Honda repair places, ask your friends and find one and go there next time.

Did anyone ask if his problem started when 3I/ATLAS entered the astroid belt? I saw a utube claiming it was sending coded messages to Olympus Mons, the largest volcano on mars?

As closure to this thread, the dealer diagnosed way faster than promised. Dropped the vehicle on Friday, diagnosed the following Thursday. Two days on parts, so 10 days total. Better than the 3+ weeks they originally said.

Problem was rodents chewing through part of the wiring harness. Happily, repairable for $400 plus $200 for the diagnosis. Of course not covered under warranty. But I got a free tow to the dealership under the Ford 5 year roadside assistance warranty (yea!), so I figure that saved me several hundred dollars.

I'll be orderiing some rodent spray from Amazon, as the truck is parked outside. And this is the second time rodents have chewed through the wires of my vehicle (last time was 6 states away in another home - Ranger spark plug wires). I need a pet falcon. Plenty of black snakes and coyotes around hgere, but they can't keep up with the squirrels, mice, and rabbits.

Anybody have a favorite rodent spray?

yeah, I speculated that based on the weird symptoms and unlikelihood of other causes.

I assume you park outdoors. can you park in a garage? move some stuff, move a different vehicle out?

Lucky only $600! Three years ago my sons Nissan frontier rodent damage was just over $5800. It was covered by his comprehensive insurance! So he was out the $100 deductable!
