Whereas I'm discovering the troubling habit of not always fob locking it as I walk away.
I used to have great habit of door locking Rav on exit.
But with fob lock being needed to arm alarm (maybe I need to test the door lock-all button, maybe manual is wrong).

Late last night heard noise possibly attic, possibly edge of roof - so went outside to look and listen.
Looked at truck and thought, I think we got out in a rush - did I lock it?
Door opened right up. Ugh.
What part of the manual do you reckon is wrong?

I'm wondering if the lock-all button works too, not just the fob.

ARMING THE ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM

The alarm is ready to arm when you switch your vehicle off.
Lock your vehicle with your remote control to arm the alarm.

So testing point 1 on non-keyless system by unlocking with key. As we've had fun with.

HOW DOES THE ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM WORK

When armed, the anti-theft alarm is triggered in any of the following ways:
  • If someone opens a door, the liftgate or the hood without a correctly coded key or remote control.
  • If you turn the power on without a correctly coded key.
  • If the interior sensors detect movement inside your vehicle.
  • If the inclination sensors detect an attempt to raise your vehicle.
  • If someone disconnects your vehicle's 12V battery or the battery backup alarm.
If the anti-theft alarm is triggered, the alarm horn sounds for 30 seconds and the turn signals flash for 5 minutes.
Any further attempts to carry out one of the above sounds the alarm again.

🤔
I just went out to the truck.
Driver's window was already down.
I open the driver's door hit the all lock button. Closed the driver's door. Then I went to go find my fob.
I reached in the open window, pretend that somebody smashed it.
I opened the driver's door and the warning for the alarm started beeping.

🙏 we have a new believer 🤝

Our work isn't done. We still have some doubters.
Unfortunately the work will never be “DONE”! Not even when gas goes back down to normal or the Aliens take over the world! (Which they would never do cause they are a hell of a lot more intelligent than we are)! Wonder if they have door lock problems on their Saucers? 🫩

I asked my buddy the above question. All he did was roll his big ass eyes, shake that melon head 👽 and telepathically mutter something about earthlings being doomed..

Wow this thread is so long! I cannot read all of this, but I do want to make it longer!

Seriously, what’s the status now?

I will say, for me, the reason I want someone who has this happen repeatedly to video it is that it happens to me RARELY. I’m not able to video a rare random event, so if someone could video it then I could confirm how/why it happens and correct it.

I’m content for now to accept that this is my fault, but I would have more confidence in my ongoing ability to re-enter the truck if I found out that there was a fixable issue.

However, as a computer programmer and previous tech support person, I know from experience that the problem is user error 99.99999999% of the time, even when I’m the user.

As far as I know, only one member has ever tried to record the self-locking phenomenon. He sent me the video, it was so blurry you couldn't see the position the lock lever was in.
What's the best picture I could get from the video.
I asked him please for a little better video showing the actual lever before closing the door.....

Sadly, he has never returned to the forum.🤷‍♂️

  • If the interior sensors detect movement inside your vehicle.

So don't use your FOB to lock the doors if your dogs are in the Mav...
My dogs are in it all the time when I use my FOB to lock it. Alarm's never gone off.

I always wondered what level of trim had that alarm actually work. Or if none actually have it equipped.
Anti-Theft Alarm System (If Equipped) - How Does the Anti-Theft Alarm System Work

I was thinking the option that allow this, but it says it only uses door presence.

Rear Occupant Alert System Limitations

The system does not function if any door is removed.
The system does not detect the presence of objects or passengers in the rear seat. It monitors when rear doors are opened and closed.

Well, you can rest easy in this case knowing that this problem is 100% user error. 😎

If I recall correctly the interior system is an optional dealer installed upgrade on all trim levels. It is not included in any factory packages by default.

I push the fob lock button twice. One honk truck is locked, two honks lock is NOT successful! Also turns off courtesy lights immediately along other things helping to save 12v battery charge a little bit.

I'm getting home late enough I don't want honks.
So one Fob press when close enough, I can hear all the locks, and catch the lights flash.
24MY - all my extra lights go off with 1 press. 2nd press is merely an audible rather than visual notice.
Well, actually right now - all those extra lights go off with door close anyway.

Interesting.
When I reminded my self that even the Rearseat Occupant thing was based on doors opening (still must be a trim option to get those settings), I was reminded about the alarm.
I wonder if it's an interior camera system for movement.
I'd be concerned with dealer installing weight sensors all around - unless plugs are in place just waiting to be used.
Shoot - I've wondered if the inclination sensor's part of the anti-theft alarm work.

I live in the country. I turn the headlights off, leave the key in the ignition and walk away. Never any problems except once I left a window down a d raccoons got in.
