Autoline After Hours had a great show last week on absorbent glass mat batteries. It got me to wondering if the Maverick has one of these because of the start-stop feature. Not having my Maverick yet (or even a build date), I thought I'd ask all you Maverick owners if anybody knows the answer. Oh, one cool factoid from the video. The average car's 12v battery is almost 100% recyclable and probably contains more than a little bit of 60 year old lead.

More sure about the maverick specs but typically the battery on a hybrid merely pulls in a set of contacts and the "traction" battery cranks the ICE

Depends the vehicle according to the parts catalogs for Mavericks. With that said what they actually shipped with or can use maybe different.

I've found 3 distinct batteries offered, 2 for ecoboost engines and 1 for hybrids.

Here are the motorcraft part numbers

This one is indeed an AGM battery but only offered on the ecoboost engines
Part #: BAGM48H6760
This a 760 CCA ,70 AH battery

the next one offered for ecoboosts is
Part #: BHEF48H6
This is a 700 CCA
doubt it is an AGM because no AGM in the part#

for hybrids
Part #: BXT99RT4A
This a 470 CCA battery and most likely not an AGM battery because no AGM in the part#

I just checked under hood on my truck. I have an XL with the ecoboost engine. The battery in it is the Part #: BHEF48H6.

Nowhere on the battery does it say AGM but I does say that it is a 70 AH battery and 700 CCA on it.

I have hybrid lariat first edition. I have not checked my actual battery. I have a visual voltage monitor plugged into my front power point. The voltage readings closely follow the recommended saturation/float patterns for a lead acid DEEP CYCLE 12v battery, so that's what I feel mine came with. The battery is a single vent to outside of cabin due to being installed in the cabin. In the manual jump starting is required to be done at specific +/- locations. I believe this is required to more positively prevent someone from hooking the negative directly to the battery terminal which can cause problems. Note the procedures to Install new battery it states that sometimes the 8 hour "learning" procedure may have to be done after some jump starts. This implies that a surge may have upset the charge control parameters for the "learned" battery or if the battery was depleted below the minimum voltage level to keep computer memory. Note that the truck is required to be locked and inactive (do not remember if Ford pass has to be kept off and if key fob has to be kept away from truck during the 8 hours. But it is stated that you should not even open the door and sit in seat without turning key or pushing button. I presume the 8 hours is to give the computer time to trickle charge battery without voltage fluctuations to determine 100% voltage level (apparently 12.85v for mine).

My 2023 Lariat Ecoboost came with a AGM battery. It says AGM Technology on top of the battery. I have had my truck since 9/5 2023 and have a little over 5k miles with no battery issues. I do drive daily but trips are often under 10 minutes except for one highway trip on Friday nights of 125 miles. I also have a 250 watt amateur radio transmitter that I use daily but never with the engine off. That radio using SSB transmissions has a peak amperage draw of 50 amps but that is only on loud voice peaks and only about 2 amps or less on receive. Just 0 problems with battery or charging system yet. Only problem is a loud whine in the speaker on receive when my foot is on the brake. Must be a motor driven brake booster of some kind since turbocharged engines have little to no engine vacuum under load.

They didn't put lead acid in a stop/start car did they?

The early 22 ECO Mavericks got the EFB 700 CCA battery due to the shortage of the AGM batteries. Sometime later in 22 the ECO Mavericks got the AGM batteries.

From what I read in this forum, the Maverick doesn't have a AGM battery, it has a POS battery!
