I finally picked up a Bayliner Element M15 (trailered weight 1750lbs) and took it to the lake with my hybrid.
Well, come to find out the ramp I was launching from was a 5% grade. I had to back in WAYYY farther than I felt comfortable. But I'm new to this and I saw other trucks throwing their whole asses in that water and I wanted to play with the big boys, so I went full send.
By the time the boat was launchable, water was covering the truck's license plate, the trailer lights connector, up to the door line on the rear doors. That's when I noticed other trucks were sending up bubbles out their exhaust pipes. And my hybrid had shut off it's engine. "That's probably not... the best." I thought. But I was in it at this point. Launched, pulled forward, truck doesn't miss a beat.
The engine ran fine but it was making
a glug glug glug sound out of the tailpipe, spitting water out for longer than I would have expected. Parked it and boated for an hour, put the truck back underwater for boat retrieval, then a 30min drive home with lots of warm desert air to dry it out.
Seems just fine. Did I just get lucky? Or was I worried for nothing?
Is there a way to temporarily disable the auto start/stop on the hybrid? I'm just wondering if I'm brave enough to do this over and over again or if I need to find a steeper ramp.
