I finally picked up a Bayliner Element M15 (trailered weight 1750lbs) and took it to the lake with my hybrid.

Well, come to find out the ramp I was launching from was a 5% grade. I had to back in WAYYY farther than I felt comfortable. But I'm new to this and I saw other trucks throwing their whole asses in that water and I wanted to play with the big boys, so I went full send.

By the time the boat was launchable, water was covering the truck's license plate, the trailer lights connector, up to the door line on the rear doors. That's when I noticed other trucks were sending up bubbles out their exhaust pipes. And my hybrid had shut off it's engine. "That's probably not... the best." I thought. But I was in it at this point. Launched, pulled forward, truck doesn't miss a beat.

The engine ran fine but it was making
a glug glug glug sound out of the tailpipe, spitting water out for longer than I would have expected. Parked it and boated for an hour, put the truck back underwater for boat retrieval, then a 30min drive home with lots of warm desert air to dry it out.

Seems just fine. Did I just get lucky? Or was I worried for nothing?

Is there a way to temporarily disable the auto start/stop on the hybrid? I'm just wondering if I'm brave enough to do this over and over again or if I need to find a steeper ramp. 😅

Sounds like water in your muffler causing a temporary restriction. 🤷‍♂️

Aaarrrggghhh!!! How many are desperately looking for an excuse to install a lift kit and you FOUND IT! Seriously to keep ice running set cool or heat to MAX HIGH/LOW TEMP SETTING which uses so much electric that generator has to be running full time.

I personally wouldn't worry about it.

Your truck will be fine.how do you like your element? I have a 21 element E18 with the 115 HP.love the boat. Pull it with my hemi ram and now with my mav also.the mav handles the 3100 lb boat as good as my ram.

Thanks so much to everyone for the responses, sounds like I'm just being overprotective. I'll be sure to get some pictures for you all next time, the little Maverick did great.

were you using tow/haul mode? seems like there should be a way to force run the ice
scroll to the bottom of this page, there a few threads related to boat towing
cool looking sport boat btw

Correct, I was using tow/haul mode. I actually just did an 1100 mile road trip earlier this month with a small U-Haul trailer and found that tow/haul mode keeps the engine running at all times unless you are at a dead stop (ie. traffic light, or, for example, with the parking break on while you unlatch your boat haha) and then it shuts off the engine just like any other mode.

PS. If you want to see your EV Coach "blue bar" stretch halfway across the dash, running your truck in tow/haul mode for three days will do it!

This works sometimes--- definitely wish there were a more elegant, consistent solution.

I'm in the "I've made a terrible mistake" phase. Give me a couple days to get over it haha. I'm coming from a larger inboard/outboard boat so there are some things I need to get used to., but overall I think it's a great way to get on the water for the price. Cute little boat, nothing fancy. I think it'll serve me well.

I wouldn't make a habit of it, but I certainly wouldn't worry about it one time.

It should be fine, the glug sound was probably just the exhaust pushing out water over time. These hybrid components are incredibly durable, and resilient. Things like a battery pack are completely water proof for instance. But I wouldn't recommend drowning them for a extended period of time.

It's also pretty unlikely water would be able to get inside of the engine itself. That's more of an issue when you get a lot of water going into the intakes.
