Had my Mav for almost 2 yrs. The dial is no issue for me but I do miss my manual transmission
I've thought about learning stick, I've heard it's fun. Strongly considering a focus RS as I've heard they're one of the best fun sporty cars to learn manual on, and they seem to be pretty reliable unless you try to make too much power out of them.

Miatas are better. :) Older ones were gutless and small, but so are most other go-karts..

How many more times will it take before OP learns how to shift his body without hitting the dial shifter? For example, have you tried shifting to the left and AWAY from the shifter?

Has anyone noticed how dial shifter discussions are like our politics? People taking strong sides on it, and fighting over it. Personally, I love it.
The dial wouldn't be my first choice of shifter, but I'm fine with it... I must be living a boring life, because I've never accidentally moved that dial, locked myself out of my driver's-side door, inadvertently changed drive modes, or set off the keyfob panic alarm in my pocket. 🤷‍♂️

The political hot button for me is the poor ol' cubby, and I will never forgive those heartless bastards at Ford for what they did to it for MY25. :D

Are you and the Mrs. trying out some new Kama Sutra positions ;)
Actually, I was going to say that there's benefits too. Like your girlfriend can slide over and sit on your lap, there's less in the way when you're storing bags of groceries in the front seat, stuff like that. The only complaint I have about the rotary shifter is that it takes a little getting used to it but the complaint about legs hitting it is really stretching things. I suspect he wanted something else and the rotary shifter is just nitpicking.

For the skeptical, I went and sat in my truck and if you are sufficiently splayed out I supposed you could hit the dial.

I for one would change how I sat before performign surgery on the shifter, but don't let that stop you.
Senator, are you saying OP must have a "wide stance?"

I've strongly considered one, but the prices for gen 1 miatas are insane for what they offer. They're also just too small for my use case unfortunately. Great cars, and a great suggestion, just not for me. Thanks for suggesting it anyways.

Stick shift= the best anti-theft device available today! Most thieves are not smart enough to know how to use one!

When on safe highway cruise I'll cross my ankles sometimes, I could see a long leg & knee hitting the shifter.
But I"m not constantly moving, just doing it once so perhaps I'm being careful on that one movement.
Now - getting uncrossed quickly is a another matter - but I'm watching the road so rarely a surprise requiring quick movement.

I can't fathom a position whereby one's body is accidentally hitting the dial shifter. I like the extra space it affords and its ease of use. Sure, it got a bit getting used to, but I do not miss the "sword in the stone" shifter in the middle of the console.

but that allowed you to shift to sport mode without having to put the mode button multiple times

our work trucks are always XL RWD if they're Ford, and whatever that equivalent is for Dodge. they are total crap.

I don't have the option to have a work truck, but if I did I would still choose the stipend and drive my Maverick lariat instead. I've been telling leadership to buy Maverick hybrids, but they had a bad experience with transit connects and aren't likely to get a small truck despite massive fuel savings. 🤷‍♂️
