Honest question - what is the best place to connect your battery tender? Is it to the jump points in the engine bay? Or directly to the 12v under the seat?

Im hopeful that I don’t encounter a low battery or deep sleep issue with the 25 and 50ah AGM but I want to be prepared if I do.

you have a lot more time to waste than I do.

letting the stock battery fail is a fine idea if the new agm battery will be the warranty replacement. otherwise, getting a battery that works even if you have to pay for it would be my suggestion.
Probably only have to call 2-3 times OF COURSE just buy a whatever battery you want. I have purchased many years ago a new battery to replace a 7 month old one because it was cheaper than tow truck. Surely if an AGM or other battery was the sole answer Ford would have found one. Even though a taller battery can be installed there may be an OEM clearance concern. Since a group 99 (short) battery is not made it could take 2-3 years to set up a new production line. The BXT99RT4A MAX series which has more Reserve Capacity than the installed OEM standard one is only about $230 (was on sale for $175 until 12/31/24) is available. My dealer warranty replaced my OEM with a MAX series in Nov 24.

I use the jump posts for my noco g5 with no issues. My dealer will install a g2 or g4 onboard noco as a dealer add on if you just want to plug it into extension cord. (A little expensive but convenient).

I’ve got the g5 and have no issues using the jump posts. Just want to make sure that’s the best practice.

it is. you are pushing current through the cabling between jump point and 12V battery, but Ford designed it that way. flat tow setups use it too.

Best practice insofar as efficiency at charging would be at the battery since it's more direct. Under hood is more convenient since the closure points are more generous.

I believe the batteries are not the total reason for all these low battery voltage issues. The logic of how much charge the battery is given, is determined by the PCM. The PCM assesses various inputs to decide the charge rate. There in lies the issue! The battery has a 45AH rating. From what I‘ve read, a charge of 10-30% of that value should be used. So, between 4.5 & 13.5 amps, depending on SOC……I recently added a BT enabled voltage monitor(attached to battery posts). Over the past 3 days I’ve noticed a split second dip in voltage every hour! Over the past 9 hrs, the voltage has gone from 12.50v to 12.23v.
Current draw on monitor is stated as 1.5ma., which should be an insignificant amount. I really don’t have any way of checking this, what with the vehicle waking up at slightest touch, and such low current….
There are way to many threads on this battery issue…., makes it tough to keep up on all the info. Bill P

trade-off between convenience and efficiency, sure. there's also safety to be considered. if something goes wrong with the charger, it's better that device is under the hood rather than in the cabin.

So both are acceptable it sounds like. I just don’t want to do something damaging like using both positives under the hood🤣

I don't understand this. I've babied this battery, plugging it into a maintainer anytime it's sat more than a day in my garage.

Everything was fine prior, I left on a six day trip and:
  • Plugged in a Noco Genius 5
  • Disabled all telemetry
  • Locked truck
  • Placed key inside house in faraday cage pouch
When I came home, vehicle was in deep sleep and interior lights did not come on. I noticed when I removed the charger and waited about 10 mins, voltage was down to around 12.2v, after being on a charger for almost a week. Less than 18 months old.

???
Deep sleep? Or battery saver mode? And don't these modes activate after x number of days, regardless of the SOC of the battery? Just asking, as I also use a battery maintainer but have not had any battery issues. Yet.

Let the battery fail and take to the dealership so at the very least you have a record of the issue. Not a good idea to try and hide a problem from them or yourself.

Or
1- Buy a DC Hand Crank connect to the jump posts. When in battery saver mode, go out and have someone crank it for a half hour before starting.
2-Trickle charge for the rest of your life and move on!
3- Keep buying flooded batteries on your dime.
4-Buy a AGM battery.
5-Drive the vehicle in circles everyday as asked in the app.
LMAO!

In all seriousness, there is a post once a week with all the same conclusions. I do have something to ad. I found that if I drive the vehicle in sport mode the battery seems to take a better charge and hold a little longer
No save mode in the app or in the dash or radio screen, or no dome lights and yippy-----remote works!

How do I upload photos. I can't seem to make the attach file button upload. I can choose the photos but nothing happens. I want to post pics of the messages on the truck.

Here are the 2 of the many photos, among others that I am advised to ignore. Like Cheech and Chong once said. Hey man what is this? Smell it. Smells like shit. Touch it. Feels like shit. Taste it. Taste like shit. Oh....must be shit. So own a vehicle that is not reliable or user friendly.

I believe if interior lights are disabled, it's in deep sleep mode.

Which is so odd, it was hooked up to a fully capable charger for six days.
