Then you can show em that your full throttle race still got close to 20mpg, while racing! They probably got 12 at full throttle.
from personal experience you're being generous

I’ve only ever gotten “dude, how do you like that maverick? I’m thinking about ordering one” comments from others.

That said, I don’t even think it’s a real “truck.” It’s a Ute… that’s been crossed over with a crossover. All the benefits of the above categories with very few of the drawbacks. ;)
I also never get any negativity. I have favorably impressed several young mothers who tote multiple strollers.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion about whether it is a "real truck". Mine works like a real truck since it effortlessly handles a half ton of payload, but it rides a lot better than most half ton trucks, so there's that.

Whether you think it's a real truck or not, it's really truckin' cool!

No one around me seems to care or know much about trucks. I had a few neighbors ask me if it was the new Ranger.
I love my 09 Ranger ( I get compliments on it from time to time and had a '99 before that) and kinda view the view the Maverick as the real continuation of the Ranger. I know it's unibody vs body on frame still though. With how big the new ones are they aren't even close to the same. The Maverick is pretty close in size which is what drew me to it.

This is really just classic bully / insecure behavior when you belittle practical things because they threaten your own beliefs often linked to ego ... "Real truck" is very much linked to ego / self image. I enjoy laughing at people who have so little self assurance they need to do this.

Strangers say this to you? I have to imagine it's someone who is looking to bust your chops or someone who feels like they are competing with you in some way.

Unless these “tough” guys on the internet forums and comment sections handed me a check of upwards of $50k-$70k to buy a “real truck” because they feel like they want to dominate my purchasing decisions to tailor fit theirs , STFU and enjoy your vehicle while I enjoy mine.

Just some things I've heard detractors say about the maverick over the course of our ownership experience.

1. It's a focus based truck. Not really, it's based on a more capable and rugged version of the c2 architecture. It resembles more of a bronco sport pickup than a focus pickup.

2. It's not unreliable/poorly built. Basically all of the widespread data we have indicates the maverick in both Ecoboost, and hybrid trim, offers above average reliability. People bring this up a lot, like everything that's more affordable is somehow less reliable long term. The opposite appears to be the case, both with Ford trucks and things like Toyota corollas/Camry's. Cheaper cars ironically seem to be built better than more expensive luxury cars, speaking as an EX BMW owner here.

3. The maverick is a real truck. It may not offer the towing capacity of full-sized trucks, but payload is very respectable, surpassing some off-road versions of things like the tundra, and Silverado zr2. It can haul and tow more than most compact trucks from the 90s, the rangers and Tacomas. You know, the trucks the same people who hate the maverick are praising. It's like "Ah the maverick isn't a real truck, now this 1997 ranger that can haul five pounds before cracking in half, now that's a real man's truck". People like that who constantly prop up every old car, and bash anything modern annoy me to no end.

Sorry for the rant, let me know what maverick myths you've had to combat with others.
For some, envy turns into hate. Too bad for them, it’s their problem.
My first car/truck was a 1968 Ranchero, paid $850 in 1976 and it was in very good shape. In my eyes the Maverick is the descendent of the Ranchero, has the ride and handling of a car and the utility of a truck.
For some, this is perfect, for others, not so much. I am fortunate to have an F-150 in addition to the Maverick, together they meet all my needs. If I ever had to get rid of one I have no idea which one it would be.
I think it’s the start of a new vehicle segment, the Ute.
Haters gonna hate😉

Respectfully, I encourage you to read my post again. The focus uses the c2 platform, but each vehicle on the c2 platform varies by quite a bit. You have products that are far more car like, the focus, and to a lesser extent, the escape. Then you have rugged, more capable and stronger versions of the platform, like what the bronco sport has. Bronco sport is basically c2 version 2.0, and that's closer to what the maverick is.

I'm not against the c2 architecture at all, I think it's brilliant, and has proven to be a stellar architecture with no blatant flaws. Nor do I deny the fact that c2 started with the focus. But there are quite a few people who literally think Ford just popped a truck body onto a focus platform without realizing how much extensive engineering work went into making the maverick a strong and capable truck.

It's kinda like our other car, a 5th Gen explorer, it uses the same platform as the Tarus, but it's nothing like that car.
Exactly. Being on the C2 platform is more about similar configurations and less about the builds. Consider that the rear suspension of an AWD Maverick is independent and the FWD is not, as an illustration of the variance that can be seen on the same platform. While I haven't compared focus and Maverick parts I also expect there are beefier parts since the Maverick is rated at almost twice the load capacity (I'm doubtful it's just springs).

Great answer. I haven't come across the full size truck comment yet but I am ready to respond with: "I'm not going to buy a 458 Weatherby Magnum to hunt squirrels".

My buddy and I were shopping for trucks at the same time. He was curious about the Maverick but didn’t commit to one like I did. Last weekend we finally got together, me with the Mav and he had his new to him Titan. His titan is sitting on 33’s. Obvious size difference between the two. I was surprised as he came away from our show and tell session considering trading his Titan in on a Maverick that he saw locally for sale. All he saw was a reduced payment and far less at the pump and that was enough for him!

That's the problem with modern society. So many people are trying to compete, or one up each other. When they can't, they seek to belittle and attack others. I'm perfectly content with our maverick, I have zero desire to own some full size 90 grand monstrosity that you have to have a ladder to get into.

But that's the thing, I think many of those owners bought those trucks on impulse and emotion. Once that wears off, they realize they spent 3 times more than us, and are getting 1/3 the fuel economy, all while hauling the same air we do. Many can't reconcile with the idea that they maybe made a short sighted purchase, so rather than look inward, they lash out and attack others to make them feel better.

I don't have hard working full size trucks either. I just find them absurdly excessive for most of their owners.

I've yet to encounter any haters. I always get positive comments like "sharp truck", even from full size truck owners. Some want to check out the interior, a few ask to sit in mine. I've had a few that didn't know what it was. If someone doesn't like it I could care less. Likes, dislikes, personal preferences like size/color etc are like butt holes - everybody's got one.

I've used the label "hater" myself on rare occasions, and I usually cringe about having used it later. Boy it's an easy mean label to throw out on somebody during any kind of disagreement. And it's just not fair. I think the word "hater" ought to be banned online.

I think sometimes calling somebody a hater is itself an act of hate.

I'm sure that I could be classified as a "hater" at times in the reverse direction. As if I'm ragging big truck people (selling a dream that isn't really materialized by any truck) or those who want more luxury (commonly referred to here as the profit margin features/trims levels).

I'm generally just trying to counter act marketing that keeps trying to convince people they need things way beyond what they really need, just to get them to spend the $$$. If someone already spent the $$$ my counter against big marketing comes across as if I'm saying "you choose wrong". I get it, but at the same time it's really frustrating. All these behaviors are just that. They are weird little ticks, we all have in our subconscious that make us feel the need to defend our choices, our self image, our <fill in the blank>. Many times without realizing we do so at others expense.

This has existing since the dawn of time. Just manifests differently through ages and communication mediums.

We're all just a bunch of poo flingers 🐒. It's about whether or not you can counter act the urges 😁
