Just some things I've heard detractors say about the maverick over the course of our ownership experience.

1. It's a focus based truck. Not really, it's based on a more capable and rugged version of the c2 architecture. It resembles more of a bronco sport pickup than a focus pickup.

2. It's not unreliable/poorly built. Basically all of the widespread data we have indicates the maverick in both Ecoboost, and hybrid trim, offers above average reliability. People bring this up a lot, like everything that's more affordable is somehow less reliable long term. The opposite appears to be the case, both with Ford trucks and things like Toyota corollas/Camry's. Cheaper cars ironically seem to be built better than more expensive luxury cars, speaking as an EX BMW owner here.

3. The maverick is a real truck. It may not offer the towing capacity of full-sized trucks, but payload is very respectable, surpassing some off-road versions of things like the tundra, and Silverado zr2. It can haul and tow more than most compact trucks from the 90s, the rangers and Tacomas. You know, the trucks the same people who hate the maverick are praising. It's like "Ah the maverick isn't a real truck, now this 1997 ranger that can haul five pounds before cracking in half, now that's a real man's truck". People like that who constantly prop up every old car, and bash anything modern annoy me to no end.

Sorry for the rant, let me know what maverick myths you've had to combat with others.
For these types of folks, I like to quote the Old Testament. I think it is in Leviticus: "If your D will reach your A, go F yourself."

This thread weirdly brought back memories of an old episode of Top Gear. They went through Alabama in what you might call "provocative cars": "Survival Challenge in Alabama". Not saying the Maverick goes that far, but it does challenge some cherished ideas of what a truck is.

...but it is a Focus with a bed. Lol.

It does a lot of things like a truck. It has a bed. It has respectable payload.

But it won't tow as much, it's not as robust in its construction, and you'd very quickly run up against some of its limitations off-road.

All about what tradeoffs you want. That's why it exists along the Ranger and F series...
Show me where it looks or operates like a focus in any meaningful way.

I'm not arguing it doesn't share some frame underpinnings, but that's super common with manufacturers anyways across multiple models, so it's sort of a moot point.

The fact is when people say it's a "focus with a truck bed" they're trying to demean it as if it A) looks like a ford focus (which it does not), and/or B) functions like a focus (which it also does not). So it's a pointless and low-effort attempt at trying to diminish the vehicle IMO.

Now if somebody wants to say it's a ford Bronco sport with a bed, that's a much more arguable position as both the frame and body construction are significantly more similar between them. Also a pointless comparison IMO though.

Bottom line, OP's point is valid--it is not in any way meaningful or functionally accurate to say it's some sort of "Focus pickup." It's a technicality that it shares some frame architecture and nothing more.

Seriously, I don't need something that can haul a bobcat excavator.

It's a vehicle for the part time DIY person that might throw a kayak on top and gear in the back that doesn't want to mess up the interior of an SUV with trips to Home Depot or Lowes and doesn't want to get 15 mpg on v8/V6 vehicle that doesn't fit in the average garage.

And it drives smoother than most trucks, and still nice enough to pick up a date in.

Exactly. I get the people who actually need to tow heavy things being disappointed with the towing capabilities. But beyond that, there basically isn't anything larger trucks do that the maverick can't. Hell, I live on a street with a ton of full size truck owners, have for about 10 years. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen those larger trucks towing or hauling anything in the last year.

It's mostly people just showing off. But when I see someone who spent 90k on a ram dually and hauling nothing by air while getting 15 mpg, all it shows me is that they're an idiot .

About twice a month I drive the 11.5 mi to my credit union. I do not take the freeway(US60) because more often than not i end up with a cracked windshield. And I am retired so I have the time to use local streets. I take Baseline Rd from Mesa to Gilbert. On todays round trip the Mav computer estimated my MPG at about 60. Was likely no more than 55. Out of 23 total miles 15.4 were EV. So I do not care what the haters say.

I'm with you, Raymundo. I much rather take the road less travelled any chance I can.

I came from a 2500 Ram. I most appreciate my Maverick for not having to crawl up the side like a monkey just to get up in the truck, and I can fit it in my garage and open the door. (y)

I'm apprehensive about ground clearance and snow, but...................I guess we don't get any snow anymore? 🤔 Warmest driest winter I can remember, by far? 😳

Snow is not usually an issue here. Unless I go to my cabin (elev 6750). The weather channel is my best friend for winter driving. No towing and no off road so I just need basic trans with room for my 2 dogs. Since Diane passed high end creature comforts are no longer a number 1 priority.

I don't have opinions on what other people drive and why. I certainly don't care if other people have opinions on what I drive and why.

When he sees the Maverick I'm sure my brother will have some stupid nonsense to spout but he spent $90k on a gasser Ram with a 5'7" bed so I won't even need a grain of salt.

I expect most of my friends and other family will be happy as long as I'm happy.

I don't care for the most part but if you drive something that looks like this I will judge your character harshly
