Anyone install a dash cam on their Maverick? And for how long have you had it? I go to Dashcam reviews on Google and on YouTube and there are so many negative reviews it’s hard to find a dash cam that actually works and lasts.

Dash cams with capacitors instead of batteries are better.
Dash cams with capacitors will last longer especially in hot weather.
Do not sandwich any dash cam between the windshield and a windshield shade.

Basically the go to brands are Blackvue, Thinkware, VIOFO and a few others. Wolfbox, one of the sponsors here seems okay, but never owned one to see how long they last. Anything with a built in battery is trash, they don't last. You want a camera with a Sony STARVIS II sensor, and capacistors rated for at leat 105°F. You likely want at least a two channel setup to make sure you are covered front and back. You really want a dash camera with 2.5k or 4k resolution.

I've had two installed (myself) in the Maverick. First was one I bought in 2016 that was in my previous car, a Blackvue GW650. That model has been discontinued for many years now though, they have newer models. Had that in the Maverick from 2022 to December 2024. Never had a problem with it in 8 years, even with extremely hot 110°F days. While Blackvue, like other South Korean dash camera makers, make good cameras, they are almost double the price of other stuff on the market.

In December I installed a VIOFO dash camera, they appear to be well liked. I went for a new camera since it offers more resolution, and more resolution makes it easier to read license plates. So far it's been great, but it hasn't gone through any days over 80°F.

I have a VIOFO. Originally put it into my '23 Mav, I moved it to my '25 Mav. Total time at this point is about 18 months, and it's been good. Also put one in my '24 Escape.

I’ve had Garmin dash cams in the past two cars. Currently have a DC46 for the front and a Mini that I’ve had since 2019 with the only issue being MicroSD card failures. Both of them support connecting over Wi-Fi to make sure you align and transfer recordings though transfer is slow so I just remove the SD card and connected to my phone when needed.

Rexing is a brand that has been well regarded for many years. I have a Rexing V1P 4K. 2160p Front + 1080p Rear.

Has moved from my Kia Sedona minivan, to my 2022 Mav to my 2023 Mav to my 2025 Mav. I thought it was crapping out on me after all this time (it would randomly reboot while driving) but it turned out it was the power source adapter (I have it powered by the OBD II port), which was some no-name Chinese brand, not Rexing and not something that came with the camera.

I have read and seen positive reviews of Vantrue cams, but we have a camper van that we bought a ROVE PRO (front cam only) a few years ago and really liked it. So I just bought and installed a Rove Dual cam...front and back in our Maverick.

Vantrue has a wider field of vision, but I only wanted one app on my phone. Rove comes with it's own memory card, has a capacitor, 4k, etc and I like how they work.

Vantrue cams have a smaller profile when positioning behind your mirror.

I am not pushing Rove cameras, just sharing that I have been very happy with mine. I would not have bought a 2nd otherwise!

Also look at how you want to power it. I bought 2 OBD plugs to power ours. Switch one way and it turns off after a bit...flick the OBD plug switch to the other selection and it stays on forever...good for in parking lots or parkades. I use the first option.

You can hardwire it in to a appropriate fuse location...videos are out there how to do this but not my choice...this way works for me and it is inexpensive.

If you get a single or dual cam, search for install videos that show how to route the cables so they don't interfere with your pillar air bags. I found one on my third try, good to know. Forewarned is forearmed.

Before you begin, if you don't have panel removal tools yet, you will need them to do a damage free install. Both my ROVE cameras came with a very basic panel tool but they do work for the task demanded of them. I have an assortment of them but just used theirs.

Cheers and good hunting!

Andy

I have had the Viofo A229+ 2channel for a year and am very happy with the video quality and features. Search my post history for pictures in the What Did You Do To You Maverick thread.

Wolfbox 900. 1 year in the Maverick - hardwired. No issues.

My search got easier once I decided i wanted a rear-view mirror style dashcam.
Only had to choose between Wolfbox and Pelsee at the time.

i have a Geko Orbit 535. actually it says "My Geko gear", but i think its just called Geko. i like it, but its has some serious downsides.

good: the base is mounted to the windshield and is always plugged in (so i never have to mess with wires again). the base has magnets that grab the cam and the cam powers up and starts recording. i always pull the cam off so it doesnt sit in the sun.... and the whole system powers down. great.

bad: pulling the cam off the magnet causes it to lose its date memory. so the files are all still saved on the sd card, but every single file is dated 1/1/2020 and i cant sort videos by date. i have gotten used to reading the mileage off when i plug the cam into its mount. not the best night video.

I also went Wolfbox rear view mirror. 2 years now and no real problems. Love keeping the rear picture in the mirror while driving. Between side mirrors and rear cam, I see all traffic behind me.
