Gang. My '23 XLT Hot Pepper Red Hybrid is the victim of the shoddy cv axles...
My son almost exclusively drives it but I took it on a road trip this past weekend and immediately noticed the wobble under medium load, most pronounced between 35-60 mph. At highway speeds, not very noticeable nor is it at very low speed at low engine load.

Asked him how long it had been like that and he says "oh I don't know... Maybe 3-4 weeks" 🥴😡...

We have appt w dealer on 6/22 w a loaner being provided. Today is 6/7.

He has to drive about 80 miles round trip 5 days a week so roughly another 1K miles before our service appt.

Both axles have some play in them and w moderate hand force, we can move the shafts and hear the click.

Video clip on YT:

Q:
-Given the above, do u think it's still OK for him to drive it another 1K miles over the next 12 days while we wait for service, assuming it doesn't get significantly worse?

I just have no sense for how quickly the situation will deteriorate or whether it could a gradual worsening or a catastrophic unpredicted failure. Any idea?

The dealer didn't seemed very concerned to drive it further given the current scenario.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thx!

It's not very likely to fall apart if that's what you are asking. Your Maverick's aren't even throwing any grease, so it's not that bad yet.

My passenger side axle looked like this when it was replaced at 24k miles.

The CV joint itself is likely not going to have a problem - unless he totally abuses it on corners and heavy load constantly.

Had an old car make it longer than that before I had time to get to it.

But the other components that may take a beating while it's shaking while driving, in ranges that are likely to increase.
Or try to stay out of those ranges.

I don't believe pulling it back and forth the way you did is the way to check them. There has to be some play in that direction for the suspension to work and not damage anything. That being said, it probably would be ok if he doesn't pound on it and takes it easy until the appointment.

Awesome! Thanks for the response. My other son has a '22 Mav Hybrid and he has not had the CV axle issue (yet) even though he has 2x more miles than mine.

I'm going to check his axles to compare but now that you mention that, it could very well be normal play when stationary though it does still wobble consistently at hwy speeds... 9 more days to our service appt.
