Collision Alert - does it apply brakes automatically?

I have had the red collision alert several times and didn’t think I was that close to another vehicle. Kind of scares me a little. Wondering if I did keep going and got closer, does it automatically slam on brakes? Not wanting to test this. My neighbor has a new Honda Accord and said his has slammed on brakes on him as he has judged someone turning off to the right and he got too close and he wasn’t prepared for it.

Had it happen twice. Once when a car way ahead of me was slowing to turn right into a business and I had plenty of room to clear and suddenly that went off and scared the crap out of me.

The other time was on the freeway when traffic started braking and it went off suddenly even though I had what I thought was a lot of space but glad it went off because we came to a dead stop because of it.

You can adjust the sensitivity and if you want it to utilize emergency braking (and evasive steering assist on suitably equipped Lariats) in the settings. Although even on low it's still a little sensitive to approaching vehicles making right turns.

Does it actually apply the brakes if you get too close?

I've had it go off a few times when a vehicle was making a right. Wasn't even close to an issue. Once I had it go off when I had the Adaptive Cruise Control on. Vehicles were slowing, ACC started to slow, then red flash and sound. I was like "Well brake more dummy". It was a harder brake than I normally do but not worrisome to stop.

Never had the emergency brake kick in.

And you can just turn this “feature” off. unfortunately like fully self driving vehicles it is not ready for prime time in any vehicle yet . I have had this also happen in Honda’s and you wanna talk about your heart getting sucked out through your mouth! Try the sensitivity adjustment first as suggested and see if that works for you it did not work well for me so I just turned it off.

It has a habit of going off if I accelerate to the person slowing down to a stupid speed to make a turn.

Yes, you're driving too close, but probably not quite as close as the neighbour drives. Most of the time you can slam on the brakes and avoid the collision when they slam their brakes on unexpectedly, but it should still be alerting you about a possible collision. If you get even more close, it will slam on the brakes and try to minimalize and sometimes avoid the impact.

I've had mine go off a few times when the closest vehicle was at least half a mile away. It's also gone off when it should, so it's a toss up.

I'm no engineer, but the sensors will calculate whether the current rate of speed will cause the truck to collide with an object. It probably senses whether there is pressure on the brake pedal and if not, will brake for you.

I've had mine slam on the brakes twice. Once on a back road with. Nothing around. To a full stop. That hurt. Seat belt didn't hold me back. 2nd time on highway.. truck About 1/2 mile infront of me. Doing 70 Seat belt worked that time and slowed to 20 on highway. I don't like it it needs more work or mine has a problem

I'm no engineer, but the sensors will calculate whether the current rate of speed will cause the truck to collide with an object. It probably senses whether there is pressure on the brake pedal and if not, will brake for you.

Agree its speed sensitive, you may not feel your too close BUT you may be going too fast it will calculate speed and distance. mine goes off once in a while and am glad it does.
