Please read the large section in the owner's manual that covers safety equipment.

Mine goes off in the one curve down town from me but I've never had the brakes come on. I did adjust the sensitivity to the lowest but it still does it in the curve. Hasn't happened anywhere else.
Funny story with my tractor at work though. Coming down hill to a set of RR tracks and I guess it thought I was going to hit something because it did slam on the brakes and sound the warning. Scared the crap out of me because nothing was there.

In wife's Escape, with adaptive cruise on it will absolutely slam the brakes. But I have never been able to trigger it when I don't have adaptive cruise on. But I don't generally chew on the bumpers of the person in front of me.

Does it actually apply the brakes if you get too close?
I know for a fact in a hybrid lariat loaded it dors apply the brakes. I am not positive but believe that you have to have the alert package AND the 360 option package for the brake application.

I have had the red collision alert several times and didn’t think I was that close to another vehicle. Kind of scares me a little. Wondering if I did keep going and got closer, does it automatically slam on brakes? Not wanting to test this. My neighbor has a new Honda Accord and said his has slammed on brakes on him as he has judged someone turning off to the right and he got too close and he wasn’t prepared for it.
In some circumstances the Maverick will brake automatically to attempt to avoid a collision. This is Standard Equipment and applies to all models and all trim levels. Obviously, this is not a self driving vehicle and you can not rely on Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). It is not 100% effective and in many instances it only reduces the speed at the time of collision. In one pedestrian test (parallel adult at night), the collision speed was only reduced by 3 MPH from 37 to 34 MPH.

About ghost braking (braking for no good reason), it is already noted in this thread that there are three sensitivity settings for AEB. If you are getting ghost braking, you might want to make sure the lens is clean and unobstructed, and the windshield is clean an unobstructed.

Here are Maverick 2022-23 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) test results:

[Daytime] Front crash prevention: vehicle-to-vehicle
Standard Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
Overall evaluation . Applies to 2022-23 models

In the 25 mph IIHS test, impact speed was reduced by 19 mph.
Parallel adult
In the 25 mph IIHS test, this vehicle avoided a collision.
In the 37 mph IIHS test, impact speed was reduced by 27 mph. A warning was issued 1.9 seconds before impact.

Agree its speed sensitive, you may not feel your too close BUT you may be going too fast it will calculate speed and distance. mine goes off once in a while and am glad it does.
While I get why some folks are annoyed by the safety features, there doesn't seem to be any important downside to them that would cancel saving myself injury or death to me, my family, or my Maverick.

I had this on my 2019 Forester that I sold to get my Maverick. I almost got hit from behind twice on the highway when a car quickly got in front of me to make an exit. It would literally lock up the brakes and make that nails on chalkboard brake grinding sound. Annoying as hell.

Happen to me three times now. The last time it did apply the brakes. Only two things occurring different in when breaks applied. First going straight and no way to avoid back end of car in-front, second difference was the person pulled in front of me ( safety) the broke hard, there red lights very visible.
I did have time to react, but truck, did so anyway.
Other two times I approached a car stopped at a light at full speed to take a right turn and merge with cross traffic. Warning but no brakes.
Think the system must ‘read the road’ as well as brakelights when deciding to apply brakes with warning.

Yet, thankfully, here you are to post about it. One has to wonder what might have happened if the Maverick didn't lock up and you slammed into the car in front.

True story. mine went off when it saw a skateboarder on the sidewalk
well, you have as much right to the sidewalk as the skateboarder.
