My '22 XLT came w/ the keypad but Ford's been progressively removing things and charging more. The downside was having to go to the dealer for all the updates LOL. That being said, I was worried this exact situation would happen to me so I setup the keypad and the app. I agree it "shouldn't" happen but I'm not one to assume technology works perfectly

FYI those folks who do have the keypad (or add one on) you can setup your own code in addition to the master code.

It's a pretty terrible idea to leave your keys, phone and wallet/purse in an unlocked vehicle ever. Hell, don't leave them in a locked vehicle, either. :D

The inconvenience of it being stolen or locked out of the vehicle is not worth whatever perceived convenience you get from leaving those things behind.

I certainly agree that this has been discussed A LOT and no one ever demonstrated how the truck would allow it to be locked through electronic means with the keys in it. You have to manually lock it with the lever on the door panel. you can do that accidentally. If you have one fob in the truck and try to lock it with another fob, it will double honk and won't lock.

Sooooo two nights ago I was driving north for the holidays. I parked in a lot and got out of the car to get something. The car immediately locked me out with my phone, keys, and dog inside. This has never happened before - it’s never locked itself with keys inside (or outside! I always have to manually lock it with the fob). It was freezing and I was outside for 3 hours waiting for a locksmith in the middle of the night. Anyone else have this happen? In case it matters, I have a 2023 Maverick with 30k miles. Just took it in for service a few weeks ago. Thanks for your help!
This was user error....as stated on many previous posts on this subject. Look at the picture posted in this thread where the long door lock is circled. not the button with the lock symbol. You hit this on the way out with your hand. Also....next time...if that happens...go around to your passenger door and you can open it and unlock the truck from there. It only locks the driver door. The other three stay open. You can open the driver's side back door.... but you have to climb in and push the unlock from the back seat. Trust me.... I've done this a few times and it is NOT the truck locking itself. Hope that helps.

HA! That reminds me of the ‘Corner Gas’ episode when Hank is trying to open his drivers door with a coat hanger and the cop comes up and says “you do know that your passenger window is down don’t you?” Classic!

Agreed
Heck, I even made a 7 sec. video showing how easy it is to accidentally lock the driver's door on the way out.
I put the challenge out there for someone to make a video of the Maverick self-locking itself with the keys inside. I've yet to see one.

Yep Glen, I saw your video. It still gets me every once in a while, but now I know can walk around and open from the passenger side. LOL. Have a good one. Thanks.

The other three stay open.
If they're already unlocked they stay unlocked. If they're locked and you do this, they'll all be locked...

Are you saying that every Maverick doesn't have that? I thought every ford vehicle came with that as a standard feature.
My '24 Lariat does not have it. You'd think, "Lariat" for $37K, it should! But most newer Maverics don't have it.

I found it interesting. When I went to the 2013-16 Escape forums those model years lack a button or toggle to manually lock the doors. Don't seem to have this problem.

True....but I've found that EVERY time myself personally that I have hit the handle accidentally, all three of my other doors were unlocked.

You're lucky, I'd say. Auto lock is defaulted to "on" in the Maverick. With auto lock, the only chance you have for all four doors to be unlocked is to unlock them yourself or never drive over 12MPH for more than two seconds. Or, you have an auto unlock feature turned on...

Auto lock is when the car gets up to speed and locks the doors automatically and does not automatically lock the doors when you walk away. Its user error.

When the Maverick is stopped the gear shift lever is put into Park the vehicle is turned off you open the driver's door all doors unlock.
Yes, it does if you have that feature turned on, as I mentioned.
