Ford Maverick Boating from the Maverick.. banana boat ford maverick

they're looking good, boat and truck..
thunderstorms all day, driving in the previous night the dirt road was a mud road, took it easy.

Ford Maverick Boating from the Maverick.. eye of the needl

eye of the needle rapid, no maverick in picture but I wouldn't be here without it ;-)

On the way home there was a squeak in the L front wheel region. Peered around but couldn't see anything, drove home without incident. Backing out of the garage next day there was an awful metal scraping noise in reverse, the squeak in forward still there. I didn't drive it for a while, had a dealer appt to look at it this week. I pulled it out once to go and wash the truck, it went Scrape, Scrape, BANG ! and the noises stopped. There, fixed it.
Ha. I guess something got stuck somewhere, in the course of a hundred miles or so of bad dirt road. Seems odd though, still going to have the dealer take a look.

Recently also did the first backpacking trip out of the truck, went well. Hunting in the fall, we'll see..

I think it was the Mav knowing you were having so much fun, it didn’t want to leave. 😂 Looks like a great time!

My truck with my kayak on top. Works well. Push into bed, climb up into bed and lift onto the roof.

Note the red strap on the front tie down. Is something I bought online when I had my Escape. Is a piece of plastic about 6" long and maybe 3/4" around with the strap attached in the middle. Just put it under the hood and close.. That's it. I do have the plastic hood protector, but still do put a small piece of towel under as well to protect the protector. lol

I love to see guys getting wet and wild... uh, in the water... outdoors.... platonically.

Looks great. Currently my "navy" consists of a midlevel 12ft inflatable dinghy/raft with seat and outboard mount, and a toy class 3 man inflatable. Hoping to get more use out of the first now I can plug in a really stout inflator into the back of the Maverick. The second might only get used under tow now, if at all... rowed, paddled and steered so bad, you'd be 20 minutes getting across a swimming pool. PPL would be shouting "It's not a sailboat, you don't have to tack."

Wifey keeps wanting a canoe, so I guess we'll be getting a canoe.

canoes are great, currently have one in the garage, two in the basement, and four outside..
no, I don't have a canoe problem, not at all.. ha.

I'd like to see a photo of how you do your front tie down
tiedowns are a perplexity with every new car.
3 options:
1. find a bit of the frame under the front, to tie off to.
This is my preferred option but everything on the Mav is behind the plastic shield.

2. the strap lm126027 mentions, which has a plastic stopper on the strap which relies on the hood to hold fast.
This is probably fine but I'm neurotic about tiedowns and this doesn't seem a very sturdy solution.

3. what I've done here, fabricate a loop of webbing and bolt it onto the bodywork under the hood.
Fold under the hood when not in use.
These straps are available for $40 from Thule, known as front hood loops.
I made mine for about $5.
See,
https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/hood-loop-tie-downs.129268/

The Maverick has a pair of bolts near the front of the engine compartment that don't seem to have any purpose, until you need to install some tiedowns. Just another example of the thoughtful design of our cars ;-)

There's a tow hook opening under the car, but it seems to require a very specific 'r hook', and I can't find these for sale anywhere.
see,
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/tow-hook-mounting-for-maverick.38829/page-2
That screenshot of the manual says:
“Do not use chains, cables or tow straps with metal hook ends.”
what on earth are you supposed to hook in there then?
This is specifically designed for the specifically designed hole. You attach your non metal straps to this.

Yes , your spot under the hood is what I was thinking, I do get paranoid about making rub marks on the paint up until the vehicle is like 5 years old

I just took my kayak out for the first time this year. I have the Elevate bed rack & Thule DockGrip to hold my 17' wood kayak. I don't use a bow or stern tie down line since my kayak cockpit has a 1" lip around the cockpit. I put a tie down in front of the cockpit & behind it which prevents it from sliding to the from to or rear. Also, the Thule DockGrip prevents it from twisting.

Drove up North to the UP and I generally drive 70 and I will get about 30 - 32 mpg depending how windy it is.
