Have experimented with the camper life...and my experience is down to "taking a shower and bathrooms". Spend 35 days RV driving from Atlanta to Alaska and back. Even with a full size RV with a bathroom, 4 beds, but still stopped at campgrounds and used their showers. Key factors are number of days of travel compared to costs of a Motel Room. Today's factors are campgrounds (utilities and minimal security) today cost about 1/2 of what a motel room costs ($40-50) probably an average. Motels have gone thru the roof since Covid...now $100-120 for a "cheap" motel.

Do the math, days in a motel verses costs of an RV, increased gas costs to pull a small RV+cheap campground, versus motel. Just did a 7,200 miles, 23 day trip in my Maverick = $2,500 for gas and motels. The best deals are people that can share costs of an RV with family or friends...but that can get messy.

The little RV above greatly interests me! But amortized costs of the little RV, plus a camp-ground for a bath and shower added to the cost makes for a tougher decision.

Looks cool. Just throwing this out there. Since its not a crazy expensive one or really heavy, you could think about axle mods to lower it. Could be worth a few MPG. They have drop spindles, spindle flips, those independent swing arm axles, could set it up with air bags. Lots of options to drop it low for hwy mileage, then get the the uneven terrain of the campground and air it up.

Also helps that the tires are fully outside of the box.
Doesn't appear to be anything available for the 2,000# axle to swap to dropped, or to lower. I think some drop can be done with the spring hanger brackets though.

I see a Maverick beat me to pickup the first Outbound camper. This one is the more off road friendly T-Rex model. Anyone from this forum?

Yes, but this is the only one of this model they had in stock. $2475 in options too! Custom order is expensive. They have other models as little as $4395. See link above. I pick it up in 2 weeks. I told my wife this was too good of a deal to pass up. She agreed.

Nice trailer with very nice price. I got the EB with 4K thinking I might get the Scamp 5th wheel someday and would certainly pull the trigger on that if I were to ever see that kind of % discount on the Scamp. Problem is they don't make many of these 3000 pound 5th wheels so I'm pretty sure it would be the other way around and my price would be over list.

I looked at those too, but damn are those fiberglass trailers expensive.

I did see the Timbren ones, Not sure if that is a good solution though.
Yeah hard to say. Honestly if you're a welder or know someone who has done chassis mods. I would just go that route. If may cost you a few hours of fab time a new set of spindles but its pretty straight forward. Just gotta get your measurements, remove the axle, square it, fab your drops, cut, and weld. Match the paint and not even the DOT will know the difference. Anyone who has narrowed a 9" axle housing for drag racing or sleeved and dana 30 and put dana 44 kuckles on it would be capable of the job. Could always stick a air bag in your spring to gain height back for high clearance camping trails

I prefer my 1963 Little Gem Bugg. We will be painting it soon to match the truck better. It weighs 900 lbs and is 13 feet long including the tongue. The wife and I have had it for about 8 years and love it as much as we love the Maverick!

The Sport got 18 mpg towing. I'm hoping for 16 mpg with the Maverick.
