  1. Mave's first snow. Very happy with Maverick Tremor!

similar experience last week, blizzard laying down 7" of snow. But it was the last day of hunting season and I hadn't filled my tag.. went out, even with 2wd and factory tires, the Mav climbed up nasty roads that would have needed chains on the RWD SportTrac that I used to hunt out of.. the...
  2. Does Size Matter Comparison: Maverick vs. Ranger, F-150, F-250

that was my problem too.. ordered hybrid in '23, didn't know the awd was coming. I've thought about trading in mine for awd, but that would likely cost about $10k, and can't convince myself it would be worth it. On the size question - was having one of those old guy truck conversations, he said...
  3. Things I wish I knew before I bought my Maverick

my old Sport Trac was my first truck, bought essentially on a whim since my neighbor gave me a good price, to replace a 20-year old Sienna that we finally wore out. The tailgate is the reason I bought another truck ;-) I joke, but it's true really, my favorite thing to do is drink a beer...

thank you for the link, better journalism than the C&D report. it's shocking that Car & Driver doesn't know this - "every component of the new HF55 hybrid transaxle (now used in all Maverick Hybrid versions) is uprated while continuing to fit within the same package size as its predecessor...

from this weekend, refilled in Rawlins WY on the way out, then drove home.. that included 120 miles of I-80 at 80mph.. good trip, first time sleeping in the back, went well.. ha. this is the 24 FWD which goes only 7 sec for the 0-60, still the fastest car I've owned in my fifty-odd (some...
  6. got my mpg down to 28..

good idea. was thinking of that on the last trip, it was startlingly busy in Knife Lake in early Sept.. but the drive from CO to MN is far enough, adding the border crossings etc makes it just too far.. we may have entered Canadian territorial waters on this trip, luckily the gunboats didn't...
  7. got my mpg down to 28..

we were right over the border from you.. that's interesting, looks much the same length canoe as mine, but better mileage.. hm.
  8. got my mpg down to 28..

previous worst was 35, at 75-80mph across Wyoming. achieved this big new personal worst, by strapping on a 16ft canoe and driving 75mph into a 20mph headwind.. didn't improve much when out of the headwind, went up to about 29-30mpg tho. I've never noticed such a big drop from carrying this...
  9. Boating from the Maverick..

used to have a Geo Metro, put a 16' tandem canoe on that, and got that joke a lot ;-)
  10. Boating from the Maverick..

oh absolutely, I love a ferry ride, sure the Mav would enjoy it too ;-)
  11. Boating from the Maverick..

canoes are great, currently have one in the garage, two in the basement, and four outside.. no, I don't have a canoe problem, not at all.. ha. tiedowns are a perplexity with every new car. 3 options: 1. find a bit of the frame under the front, to tie off to. This is my preferred option but...
  12. Boating from the Maverick..

didn't even think of changing modes ;-) not used to having the option..
  13. Boating from the Maverick..

they're looking good, boat and truck.. thunderstorms all day, driving in the previous night the dirt road was a mud road, took it easy. eye of the needle rapid, no maverick in picture but I wouldn't be here without it ;-) On the way home there was a squeak in the L front wheel region. Peered...
  14. Is the Mav the best vehicle and value you have ever owned - hybrid only responses.

age 65, agreed, best vehicle I've owned. not the best value, as a good used car like all my previous cars ;-) is probably a better value.. but ask me in 20 years, says he hopefully.
  15. 100k maintenance report

same size, within a few inches all around.. agree, feels like I've just replaced my old truck basically. The Mav is much quicker and more powerful tho, which is odd considering the Sport Trac was 210hp, even combining the electric and IC engines the Mav doesn't have as many horses. Miss the V6...
  16. 100k maintenance report

my Fords: 81 Escort wagon, with faux wood panels, drove from 80k to 110k, sold it on running well 82 Econoline, took it to 250k, one transmission rebuild which was mostly my fault for towing in 4th (4sp manual), still running well when donated 04 Sport Trac, at 188k now and going strong so not...
  17. What are your thoughts on these points against owning a hybrid truck?

the Mini is not hybrid, my sister-in-law's.. so every start required the starter motor to kick over, with a bump and a grind.. turned off the auto-stop on there..
  18. Safety and Self-Help Gear, what do you carry in your Maverick?

had the same thing in my Sport Trac, a storage box in the bed full of emergency kit, tire chains, snow shovel, gallon of water, box of protein bars, change of clothes, etc etc. It seemed a good idea at the time but turned out quite annoying when I had to pack for a trip and needed the space...
  19. What are your thoughts on these points against owning a hybrid truck?

I drove a Mini with the auto stop/start and it was intensely annoying, especially in heavy stop-go traffic. On my hybrid Maverick I can't tell when the engine is stopping and starting unless I pay really close attention.. it's much better.
  20. Hybrid fuel mpg

confirm - at 65-70mph I will get about 40mpg. Getting nearly 35mpg at 80mph is honestly pretty good.. my 2009 Honda Fit would average 40mpg travelling at 65mph, at 80mph it would drop to mid-30s. So much the same result.. air resistance increases as the square of the speed, so the extra few...
