Until I sold my business in 2021, I was a dealer for both products. We typically recommended the Ultra Flex or Armor Flex over the MX4 for two reasons.

1. The prop rod setup on the Undercover models always seemed more positive to me. I didn't like the adjustable nature of the MX4 because it seemed too easy to not get it right, while the Undercover snapped in to a predetermined location that kept the folded cover away from the rear window.

2. The Undercover warranty was 2 years longer than the BAK warranty, which we felt added value and gave the customer more time to get help if the cover didn't hold up for some reason.

We also liked the felt underside because it looked nicer and seemed like it might muffle some noise from inside the bed. Invariably, when we pointed these things out on the displays, customers would choose the Undercover and we rarely had any returns.

All that said, you may also want to consider the Truxedo Sentry series of hard rollups, which is what I put on my Maverick. I find it easier to use than the Undercover, which I had on my F-350, and I still get full use of the bed without blocking rearward vision. Just a thought...
That must have been the reason my dealer friend leaned me towards the undercover when I was purchasing

Thank you. I won't worry about the full fold position then. Regarding the top finish... I don't plan on stowing on top of an MX4. Do you think I need to be concerned about scuffing?
Probably not, but it's your call.

I appreciate everyone's help, thanks to all. This is a wonderful group. I still had a tough time deciding this afternoon, but said what the heck and ordered an MX4 and Toyota bed extender. Weathertech mats are already on the way and that just leaves a console vault for under the rear seat. I would like fog lights too. Then, I think I'm done, I hope.

Regarding the undercover & the hard roll up, which do you think is more water resistant and lower profile?

Both covers sit flush with the bed rails by design so they should be equally low profile.

Water resistance typically comes down to seals. For the Undercover, we used to add a layer of weatherstripping at the bulkhead between the bed rails to fill the bulkhead rail gap caused by the thickness of the bed caps on the side rails.

To get good seals, install the cover per instructions. Then have someone get in the bed with the tailgate closed while a second person shines a bright light all around the outside edges of the cover. Anywhere light comes in will allow water, so use additional seals or sealant to plug those gaps.

I have the Ford Advantage Hard Folding tonneau which I think is a rebranded BakFlip MX4. I haven't noticed any issue with resting it on the glass but you could modify it so it wouldn't. I haven't had an issue with loading things in the bed with it fully up and since it sits above the rails there is plenty of space under it when it is fully closed. I like the locking mechanism for each of the fold and the ease of use. I have only notice a couple drops of water after it rains but have yet to determine where they come from.

Hi Nick, any chance of getting good detail shots of the clamps and rails of your cover? I want to compare the designs with the current hardware included with the BakFlip.

TIA

Yeah. I will try to snap some tomorrow. I do also have the Elevate TS rails which includes a few extra clamps.

I ordered the undercover today from Real Truck. The Armor Flex. That is the same on I had on my F-150 and it served me well for 6 1/2 years with no issues. Very small amount of water near the tailgate, but I'm not sure that it wasn't splashed up from under the tailgate. Not any significant amount.

Anyway, it'll be here in a few days. That will take care of the major concerns for my new Maverick. Other mods can wait.
