Although I rarely speed enough that I'd get a ticket I run an R7 and ALP jammers, I have the radar detector on a generic blendmount type mount under my mirror and used a tap to get power from the camera in the box behind the mirror.

Any tips or pictures for tapping the camera power? That’s my long term plan!

SPEED does not KILL. Unskilled, distracted, emotional drivers, and/or poorly maintained equipment kills.

Speed AMPLIFIES damage. IMHO

Don’t need em around these parts.
Cops do 70 in the 60 zones.
I run with them.
Never been pulled over.

It's not speed that kills.
It's the sudden deceleration!!

🤔I wonder how many of those using a radar detector, are also using a dash cam with GPS recorded speed?

As speed increases, it also requires increasingly quicker responses from the driver in all situations. There is a speed at which is beyond the reaction times of the driver to successfully complete any maneuver. This varies from driver to driver, but has nothing to do with skill, distraction or poorly maintained equipment.

Cherokee - we know you are the best of the best. I would never expect someone like you to need the aid of a radar detector

I list reaction time under the SKILL umbrella. I know far too many 'younger-than-I drivers' that do very badly at Whack-A-Mole. The ones that ride motorcycles sometimes become statistics.

I think we can all agree that speed, in the wrong hands, is dangerous.
That said, I'm keeping my R7 for those 'times'.

I recently went down to Tail of the Dragon with the Civic X forum with a buddy in his Type R (FL5). He runs a Uniden R7 and I was generally impressed with the advanced alert of radar that we received. Multiple times running at high speeds he got alerts 20-30 seconds before we saw a cop.

I'm not really a fast driver and I actually avoid the freeway now during my daily commutes because of the hybrid but I do run some decently high speeds on my way to North Carolina and the coast in the summer. That made me look into and recently purchase an Escort Max 360c mkii. I went with it because has GPS lockout for repeat alerts that are not a radar from law enforcement which is nice in a large and developed city.

So far I've had it alert to officers multiple times in that same 20-30 seconds before we could see them. Just curious if any folks have one and what you're running if you do.

I do plan to tap the power above and run. the cord into that so eventually it should look quite clean.

I've had an R7 for about three years. Bought an extra hanger and move it between my RAM and my Mav.
360 degree monitoring like my old Valentine 1. Plus they do firmware updates for free.

WRT comments about velocity -- a common opinion people have is that everyone driving faster is a maniac, and everyone driving slower is a moron.

There are many variables -- road condition; weather; type of vehicle and its condition; driver experience and skill; amount of traffic, etc.

A related issue is with the black boxes that report driver behavior to insurance companies. Vehicles, drivers, and conditions vary dramatically. The boxes record speed and G-forces. The maximum safe cornering G-force for a minivan or box truck is much lower than it is for a Corvette but (AFAIK) those differences are not taken into account. Likewise with weather. The max safe cornering force on dry pavement is much higher than when it's snow covered, but the black box has no way of knowing the conditions. 0.2g in slick conditions might be reckless.

Some people are obsessed with speed limits. Granted, it is a good idea not to exceed them by much, but there is no speed limit that is correct for all conditions, all of the time. Just because a driver is traveling over or under the limit does not necessarily warrant criticism. People have a right to drive under the limit as long as they are above the minimum (usually 40-45 mph). OTOH, no one is harmed by someone running double the limit on an open desert highway.

I have to work very hard to measure up to my expectations.
:’P

My last speeding ticket was in the year 2,000
37 in a 30.
Speed trap, they blipped the radar, a detector wouldn’t have made a difference.

Before that in 1989 39 mph in a 30
Speed trap again. A detector wouldn’t have worked that time. Me no have one.

Those were my only two tickets in my whole life.

Since you think I’m full of shit I won’t mention my many very hard to believe high speed police encounters.

Google R7 install as they do make a wire harness for it.
Sure. I figured someone who had done one specifically on a Maverick could have some input.

My last one was somewhere around 2010 with the MD trooper writing me for 84 in a 65 while going down a big hill. Luckily, I still had a VA license at the time so there weren't any points. While I've been stopped 4 or 5 times since then, no tickets. No points since like 1990.
