It wouldn't be my first choice of shifters, but I can live with it. I do like it better than the electronic shifter I had in my 2015 BMW X1.

As I got older and more able to afford more high end vehicles I decided I wasn't going to pay a high price and still have to shift my own gears. Not happening. Once I got used to the dial shifter (I had one in an Edge and Escape) I found that I like it better because it gives you more console room.

My Maverick has so many new features that I have to get used to, so the dial shift is not a problem. I will let you know that I went to a auto carwash this weekend. Instructions are put your auto in neutral, foot off brake, and hands off steering wheel. My truck wouldn't advance and we figured out that my auto-stop was holding it up. Make sure you turn off this feature when using an auto car wash.

I like it. I have had many kinds of shifters over the years, from manual “three on the tree” to floor stick shifts, to automatic transmissions with either floor or column shifters. The dial is different and rather unique. I think it is just one of the cool design features of the Maverick.

i would like to ask all, does anyone like the diel shift. i personally do not like it. so I am on a mission to see if there is a way to put a hand held shift like an f150. does anyone agree. thank you
I like it. What I don't like is the electronic park brake! It scares me to know that if my brakes fail I'm fucked.

Having that dial opens up a lot of space in between the seats when I sat in the dealer training Maverick . The Maverick has a nice center console arrangement, but so plasticky. I like the phone storage area on the Maverick. Perfect IMO.

This reminds me of the people complaining about the power switch on the Venza. Right after you push the power button your hand is right next to the shifter, what could be easier. No reaching around your wipers or light switches to reach the power switch.

Isn’t that the opposite of “innovation?” Going back to the way things were?

I have not had a dial shift but I’m looking forward to it. It looks low and out of the way. Which is nice, since my dog has happily knocked my traditional shifter out of gear in my current vehicle.
The old ways are best.

I miss the hand crank on the front of my Model T.

We can assume you've never driven a manual transmission with no synchros.

OH MY GOD! There's 3 pedals, and you need to match revs and double clutch.

You don't even have a hand free to check your Insta.

Hate it, confusing and very un-truck like!

Actually not confusing but I’ve several times turned the dial the wrong direction. Like going into reverse but went to park. Or going to drive but put in park. A fast jolt when the vehicle jumps to park.

Who looks when turning the dial shifter?

I have to admit the electric parking brake made me a little nervous on a steep driveway recently. I kind of missed the reassuring feel of giving a manual brake lever a good strong pull. But then, cables can also potentially fail. Plus the vehicle is still in park as well, so.....

It really isn't that bad; I wouldn't worry about it. I was concerned as well the first time I tried it, but it's so different it kind of just resets your brain. I spent years bouncing back and forth between column shifters and automatic stick shift and always grasped for the wrong one no matter what vehicle I was in, but the oddity of the dial forced me to immediately adapt.
is the Maverick your only vehicle and daily driver? If so, I can see where it is so easy for you to Cavalierly dismiss and/or ridicule the concerns of others not in that situation. In my case my current DD is a Jeep Grand Cherokee with console mounted shifter that also functions as a slap shifter in Sport mode if I want to manually go up and down gears, and the drive mode rotary dial is next to it but default mode is Normal. I also have a 2018 Ford F-150 with a column shift and all the driving modes are contained in the end of the shifter arm. Also have an E-450 based RV with same setup as the F-150. I regularly go back and forth between vehicles (especially Jeep & F-150) depending on seasons, needs, and the day's tasks. There's no deep seated muscle memory here because it's an awareness and safety adjustment each switch.

Adding to the mix a goofy, foreign, ill located rotary dial AND separate button for driving modes adds unnecessary hassle and complication. They would have been better off using the shifter on stalk like so many other Ford vehicles have. Make the dial an option for those who think it is such a game changing technological and ergonomic advancement they just have to have it.

I periodically jump in some more typical automatics from the 2000s. Its not an issue.

I also used to be in 1st Cav and they made me drive everything under the sun. So I've had experience with "different vehicle every day" driving. Which is why I'm kind of flabbergasted you all are having so many issues with a damn knob.

EDIT: As an aside, making optional transmission controls is silly considering the Maverick's stated goal is to be as affordable as possible. Every option just complicates production, driving price for everything up. They'd be stupid to do it.
