Personally its is a complete joke to put an electric switch as a gear selector.
* * *
At least provide an option to opt out.
My truck is a hybrid, so using some kind of manual connection for shifting would be the real joke. The gear ratios are controlled by the speed of a secondary electric motor, and that is controlled by a computer. Might as well include a buggy whip and flog the hood to get up speed.

Fortunately, there is an option to opt out. Just buy a different vehicle. Unfortunately, as is always the case, as time moves on your selection will get scarcer and scarcer.

After driving the truck, I like the dial shifter. It’s simple and doesn’t take up space like other shifters.

Getting used to it, I don’t hate it but it’s definitely strange at first

I've been driving a Ford Fusion Energi Titanium since 2018. Before that I had a 2015 of the same. Both had dial shifter, so I have gotten used to it. Matter of fact when I get into my wife's Alfa Romero, I have to think about how it shifts into gear.

Plus, I do find that it does not get hit and knocked into neutral or worse with the dogos in the car with me. So far, the worst they have done is put it in Low.

Cleans up the console looks wise and takes less space, so that’s ok. But I don’t see how something you use for one second when you start to drive away and one second when you turn the car off makes any kind of a difference. I don’t mind, but the more I read this forum I realize I’m very easy to please comparatively.

Inorite.

And BTW- if you switch the ignition off when you stop it automatically switches to Park.

Now this HUGE ISSUE is reduced to a fraction of a second when you start out.

Can we get back to worrying about real problems, like tailgates that aren't perfectly level?!

Might as well put that control on the steering wheel for it to have some practical use. And to have to look down to see where you just rotated too is a farce for driving safety. Especially in an emergency situation.
Did you guys stare deadeyed at your manual shifters? I doubt it. Why do you feel the need to do so on a dial shifter that only has 4 positions? And while your instrument cluster, which you should be looking at from time to time anyway, shows you the gear and which way and how many clicks you need to get into the right gear?

Like, I get it - New things have a learning curve and it can feel awkward and bad getting over it. But for the love of God, Ford put a dial in a car, they didn't lobotomize you.

Don’t know if anyone already mentioned this, but you don’t need to turn the knob on Park to turn the car off? When you turn car off, even in D, it defaults to P. I like that, one less step 🤷🏾‍♂️👍

A learning curve for the gear selector is needed for the same people who don’t have the internets 😂

Call me an innovator I just like things the way I like. not that you are wrong you are 100% in the wright, but just looking at it bothers me. I'm so used to having my hand on the shifter.
Yeah, we won't have our truck until abt 9 more wks but we were wondering about that round shifter knob too. Kind of odd. Driving abt 46 yrs the regular way of shifting. I'm sure it'll take a bit getting used to. For the low price of the truck, especially w/AWD, hey I'll deal w/it.

It really isn't that bad; I wouldn't worry about it. I was concerned as well the first time I tried it, but it's so different it kind of just resets your brain. I spent years bouncing back and forth between column shifters and automatic stick shift and always grasped for the wrong one no matter what vehicle I was in, but the oddity of the dial forced me to immediately adapt.

Good to hear. I had reservations about the dial because my muscle memory is adapted to center console shifters, but since the shifter is just a big electrical switch anyway there is no real reason for it to take up room on the console.

Heck, I used to have a 1963 Chrysler sedan...It was a push button transmission on the dash to the left of the steering wheel and park was a slide lever which had to be pushed to the left to put it in park...actually doesnt sound much different then the transmission dial on the Maverick.
