Most people who are familiar with a manual shifting vehicle prefer a real shifter. Something to hold on to.
Long ago mercury put push buttons in the middle of the steering wheel. I'd rather that than a dial shifter.

Maybe after I get the truck I will discover I hate it, but right now I have to say I think it is kind of cool looking. I will follow up in a year. :D
I did not like at first, but have gotten used to it. Its just a thing, do miss the shift lever to rest R hand on but not a big deal.

i would like to ask all, does anyone like the diel shift. i personally do not like it. so I am on a mission to see if there is a way to put a hand held shift like an f150. does anyone agree. thank you
I am now very fond of my dial shifter. At first I thought it seemed like that was one of the ways Ford kept costs down for this vehicle - with a “Cheap” shifter. But it’s very cool in my opinion. I really like it now

I like it fine, I was use to it anyway since wife Expedition has it, my F150 has the normal shifter in the console, long as they work I don’t care what style they are

I don’t understand the problem with the shifter. It is not like the shifter moves linkage any more. I drive dump trucks and fire trucks and there is just a button to push to put them in drive.
To that point, since there are no linkages or other mechanical connections, why have it waste space by putting it in the traditional location for a console shifter? It is subject to spills and is in the way.
A dash switch with touch-position design where one could develop repeatability through muscle memory (like a traditional shifter) would be my preference. I don't like having to look at an indicator when shifting.

Mine is scheduled for build in a month but I currently have a 2020 GMC Terrain that has button shifters and I honestly like how much space is saves in the center console(even thou they don't utilize the space as well as the Maverick does). So I haven't specifically used it yet but I'm sure I won't have any issues with it.

Mercury had push-button shifting in 1957 and 1958. It was a panel to the left of the steering wheel with a separate wide button(?) below for the PARK selection.
The 1958 Edsel had push buttons in the center of the steering wheel. That was it, one model year.
By 1959 no FoMoCo had push button shifting to my knowledge. Chrysler Corporation models had buttons on the dash longer than anyone else. I cannot remember if the 1961 'mini' models had buttons, but I think they did. By 1963 levers were back in style.
I would prefer a lever, personally, and think center consoles are actually a waste of space. You sure get crowded a lot for very little storage volume.

My first manual was a 3 speed on the column. My last was a 5 speed on the floor. One of my first cars had a two-speed auto with a lever on the dash. I frequently travel for work and rent cars and trucks with a variety of shifters including a the new dials. Over the years I have just got in and driven each without giving much thought to the shifters.

I wonder if it was controversial when the manual shifter went from the floor to the column. Of course, there were no forums back then.

I hated it so much I punched it right out of the center console in anger, made ford install a column shifter instead!

Well we have had push buttons, stick shifts, fluid drives and more. Don't mean nothing as long as it will go where you tell it. Would much rather have the dimmer switch back in the floor where it belongs.

Call me an innovator I just like things the way I like. not that you are wrong you are 100% in the wright, but just looking at it bothers me. I'm so used to having my hand on the shifter.
like it or. Not,it’s in most cars built today. I don’t have mine yet after a year waiting but it looks like a rotating switch.its in all fords that I’ve seen and Gm cars.
would you want. hurst shifter in a cheap 4 banger.

Bought mine Friday, still getting used to the dial. Not a deal breaker.

I work in collision industry and drive just about every vehicle out and seems everyone of them are different these days. New Acura NSX is the worst, push button.

Out of my 1,001 things to worry about, the dial shifter didn't make the list.

I like that you can take the key out while it is in drive and it will automatically go to park for you.

Helps when ya gotta pee really bad. Just jump out and go. 😂

I like it. Flick it right to go. Flick it left to park. Easy.
