Just pretend you're driving a Land Rover, Same dial, but the Ford's doesn't pop up like it's shopping in the freezer section.

If you're on a budget, pretend it's a Dodge.
Lol. Both my ‘Dodges’ have shifters.......

First car with a dial and l love it. Other than reverse you can rotate the dial as times as you want for park or drive. With low being a push button there is no chance of going into that like I would accidently do once and a while in my Sonic. Even if the Mav had a lever it wouldn't be connected to the trans like the olden days, it would still be an electrical connection. If you are feeling extra lazy you don't even have to shift into park, it will do that on its own if you shut the truck off while in gear.

Isn’t that the opposite of “innovation?” Going back to the way things were?

I have not had a dial shift but I’m looking forward to it. It looks low and out of the way. Which is nice, since my dog has happily knocked my traditional shifter out of gear in my current vehicle.
despite current popular culture and thinking, not ALL "innovation" or "progress" is good- or necessary.

I'm an "older" kinda guy, never had a dial shifter before.
Hell, I started with an F-100 and a 3 on the tree!
Anyways, I actually like the dial so far, and in fact after a week I've yet to really find a dislike in this truck, other than the hit on the bank account (which wasn't horrible).

I thought I'd hate it and take a long time to get used to it. About the third day I forgot it was different and now neither a plus or minus. Well if I had to rate it it would slightly be a plus.

yes, my understanding is it is "drive by wire". My biggest issue with it is my other 2 vehicles are still mechanical lever shifters and it will take re-learning each time swapping between vehicles, which is a frequent event. Also the problem I have with the stupid start/stop in the F-150. Don't want it. don't need it, don't like it... at.all. For some people on here they don't mind it as you can disable each time you start it. That's great if it is your daily driver and becomes 2nd nature. For me switching vehicles back and forth it is just a PITA.

The shifter dial does take some getting used to, but as others have stated you can just rotate it a bunch clockwise and it will be in D, 2 clicks counter-clockwise from drive puts you into R, and don't worry about park because it happens automatically when you shut off the engine.
As for the dogs, they could potentially shift you into low gear if you are going slow enough, and changing all the start/stop, drive mode, ect is almost definitely going to happen. I wish I could set defaults for those buttons and then lock them out.

After 5 months I still don't like it even though I'm used to it. What the Maverick really needs are paddle shifters or some other way to downshift other than the useless L button on the dial. Trying to reach down and find that button while driving is a joke.

Of all the new things that I had to get used to in this truck, and there were a lot as my trucks for the last 25 years were bare-boned standard shift Rangers, the dial shifter has been easy to like. It was odd at first but it does its job fine.

Get the Start/stop eliminator. I have it in my Maverick and love it.

It took me a little bit to get use to it, but don’t mind it. There are other controls near the shifter that a dog can interfere with, I’d keep that in mind…

Just put a Muncie in it…or buy what you want instead of buying something you don’t want in the first place.
Who, in their right mind, would buy a brand new vehicle and want such a significant modification because it’s what you’re used to? Just buy the F150 and be done with it.

We have Ford Fusions at my office, and the first time I got in the newest one, which has the dial shift, I was dumbfounded. It took me a literal minute to comprehend that was how you select your gear. I can't say I like it, but I've learned not to hate it - unobtrusive and simple, at least it doesn't look like a mouse.

i would like to ask all, does anyone like the diel shift. i personally do not like it. so I am on a mission to see if there is a way to put a hand held shift like an f150. does anyone agree. thank you
Had dial shifter in a couple of cars, Edge and Escape as well as my Mav. Once I got used to it I liked it and it gives you more room. But, to each his/her own.
