Normal? No. There are plenty of other brands that show rust like that but only after several years and tens of thousands of driving miles. Some brands show no rust at all. This is 100% an issue of how the metal was treated prior to painting. Ford knows how to properly treat metal. This is either due to cost savings measures or manufacturing defect. Whatever it is, it is not normal nor is it acceptable.
Hey, I agree with you all and I certainly don’t want rust on my 5000 mile truck, but the warranty says they won’t cover it. A few other have stated that above. If you can get them to treat the areas, that’s great, and hopefully it’ll become a recall. I’ve fought Mitsubishi of American on a corrosion issue and lost — it was months of aggravation and I’m not doing it again.

I think this is “normal” when considering that we bought the absolute cheapest vehicle in the companies American lineup. Corners we were cut to save costs

I REALLY hope they do something about it, but I’m just not getting my hopes up or wasting time worrying because i think I know the answer already.

Yeah, well if nothing else I'm researching local dealers for Krown and fluid film, but I shouldn't have to be.

I was using a protectant on the rocker panels when I saw rust already on the pinch welds and exposed painted surfaces underneath. 8 months old and less than 2000 miles. Never driven in the rain or snow.

So does the Maverick not have body plugs? Shouldn't the dealer have installed them when the vehicle was delivered to them? If not that little bit of exterior rust is the least of your worries.

Those holes are there for drainage. What good would plugs do?

I was told its warranted and it will be repaired. Nothing to do with the rust perforation warranty and by no means is it normal regardless of the price of the vehicle. I have an 07 corolla with over 200,000 miles and no rust underneath. Its hard to argue perforation warranty on a new vehicle.

All vehicles have body plugs that fit into openings in the frame to prevent water getting into the frame, this is typically done by the dealer during the inspection before it is delievered to the customer. I thought that's what the opening shown was. If it's a drain position, never mind.

That's great news! FWIW I also have an Oxford White Mav that was purchased in January of this year. I live in Central Illinois so it's seen it fair share of snow, salt, and rain.

After seeing your post and pics yesterday I pulled the Mav out into the driveway and looked underneath the under carriage and I saw no signs of rust anywhere. So IMO what you are experiencing is not normal and should be covered under warranty.

Look carefully inside the holes at the front doors underneath. It's only around the holes at the front. It starts around the edges inside the holes. And around the holes if you look with a light the paint is thin you can almost see through it. also look at the pinch welds.

Yep, that's where I looked and didn't see any signs of rust. My Mav also has a little over 2000 miles just like yours and it has been driven in harsher conditions than yours so I would think that I would see signs of rust but I didn't.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up and I will be keeping an eye on it from now on just in case something changes.(y):)

So for those of using rust treatment/protection fluids- Are you taking off all the undercarriage felt liners ? Hard to get to 80 percent of the frame with those in place-

I have my appointment for the body shop to pull the covers and see if anything else is going on. Guy told me doesn't make a difference If I drove it or not. The moisture is in the air and that is should not have done that.

That's very good to hear and I will be checking this regularly.

I use Ziebart, and they, here in the Indianapolis area, have me come back yearly.
That's true - they want you to come back and is a good Idea to go back each year. My observation is that you can go every other year and you'd be fine. The lifetime warranty they give you requires a yearly return. To be honest I don't think much of lifetime warranties so I don't follow their guidance always
