I'm wondering if any of you with rust issues will tell us what model you have, Lariat, XLT, and XL. I'm wondering if Ford "cheaped out" on the XL or XLT and maybe not the Lariats? Thanks!
XLT for me but I doubt that it is a factor.

I wonder if adding a coat to vehicle could actually void warranty. I would think it would be better to document issue then to fight it yourself .. But I am one not to do anything to a vehicle until out of warranty. Everything gets documented then if issue gets worst or is continuous it will have a paper trail back into warranty period..

As per Krown: A Krown undercoating protection will not void the warranty of the vehicle under any circumstances. If a dealer tells you this make sure that you get it in writing and also confirm it with the corporate offices, and it probably would not hurt to get it in writing from the dealer as well. Chances are the dealer is just trying to sell you their own product at dealer prices.

I'm glad I'm in AZ and rust isn't an issue here. Nonetheless, this whole post has been concerning! Good luck to everyone dealing with this.

In 1978 I bought a new Honda Accord. Two or three years later, Honda notified me that the front fenders were apt to rust. So they sent me to a body shop where they put on 2 new fenders, painted and blended into the surrounding areas, and sent me on my way. Proactive!
They've learned their lessons. My 2002 Accord with almost 200k miles has next to zero rust.

Looked under mine tonight - none behind the front tires, but it looks like some toward the back on the exhaust (not 100% sure, didn’t have the best lighting). I’ll crawl under there tomorrow…

I went out and looked under my carbonized gray lariat this morning after viewing this thread. It had a very light surface rust in the holes pictured earlier in this thread, on both sides of truck. I ordered a can of fluid film to cover the areas but I suspect all mavericks are going to have this issue (if you can call it that). My trucks only a month old btw. It’s such a minimal amount that I’m not concerned and I feel like this fluid film will inhibit any fur

My magic ball says unlikely the film will help cause rust never sleeps. Unless you grind it off and prepare properly and paint it will just keep going. 80 plus vehicles in my life time experience.

I don’t disagree that rust can get out of control; however my one month old truck is so marginal in underbody surface oxidation at this point, a quick wipe with some steel wool will take it off . I have oem touch up paint I am going to put on the subframe drain holes that appear thin on paint and then use the fluid film for good measure. This will literally be all that a dealership would do to remediate a claim (if ford even approved it) and I don’t trust they’d give it as much attention as I will.

I will be looking under my 2 month old ute this long weekend. If I find anything I will probably cover it with some clear Flex Seal. I used some on the rocker panels on my 2014 Frontier, stuff is pretty tough and very adhesive. South Texas doesn't rust vehicles too badly unless you are by the coast.

The body shop my dealer uses is the same shop I've used for years.I would want from them a step by step explanation of how it would be addressed. I don't think the perforation argument should cut it for brand new vehicles. I think its more about the lack of prep and painting. My 07 corolla with over 200k looks better prepped underneath. The paint does look rather thin.

Had mine undercoated before I took delivery so if there is any rust the boys that did the undercoating are liable.

I need some advice. I have decided to have my local mechanic spray the bottom of mine and I need to know how many cans it takes. Also, I need to know if you dropped the "protector underpiece", shown here in this video at the 1:55 mark, as my mechanic is going to put it on a lift and drop that piece so I need to know how many cans it takes with that off.

Thanks.

Okay I just looked under my 4 month old XLT Maverick, and it is rusting in the same spot. On both sides. I'm taking it back to Ford to have it documented then - depending, I will have it fixed asap before the rust pits and no hope of stopping it. This is a major setback. I think ALL Mavericks will have this issue, until Ford adjusts something in the process.. I can only assume the paint robot completely missed those spots. Complaints of thin paint turning into NO Paint. I'll find a body shop to fix as soon as I show Ford.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

This will show up on them all unless a process change was instituted in the paint shop to address low film build of the elpo coat in that area. It's a grey primer that is applied to the bare body in a dip tank after a phosphate wash that removes any oil film. The elpo coat film adheres and builds on the body using an electric charge. It's tough stuff and is great for preventing rust-if it builds properly. Doesn't look like it did in this area, mine's the same.

At 1:25 to 1:30 in the video you can see the elpo phosphate area, the truck just being submerged, then what it looks like after being elpo coated prior to a coloured primer, paint, then clear coat.

Cheers.

Now I see why there is no paint behind the tail lights. Took my tail light off to install and run wires for lighting in the bed and in the video at 1:54 it shows the bracket that was holding the Tailgate for painting that covers the middle section behind the tail light.

Let me give you a hint on what is the important area to do first. I had the whole frame of my Toyota Tacoma replaced at no cost to me due to perforated frame. The box frame rusted from the inside out because the subcontractor (DANA) didn't wash all the stamping oil off the frame before zinc coating. Zinc doesn't stick to oil, so the frame never received the proper coating of zinc. It cost DANA over $11K each to have Toyota replace the frames and sent DANA into bankruptcy.

I took my flashlight and shined into the frame holes where forum pictures show rust to see if I could see rust and it was clean, but the coating didn't look uniform. That is the area that will rust out unless completely coated with some rust proofing material along with the door bottoms at the crease. I have not heard of any vehicles with the floorboards rusting out since the seventies. Also, the rocker panels are easy to coat via the drain holes at the bottom of the rockers.

If done right the body will outlast the engine and battery packs.
