Must be troll user I've blocked, that post doesn't show. Regardless of what that person said, one user here did a dyno test, it put out way more than 22HP.
On electric with the gas engine off?

I think the hybrid battery is too small and weak. There is plenty of time to charge it when driving and braking, so a bigger battery would hold more juice and allow the driver to get up to speed from stops without having to drive like an old lady and piss off those behind you. More zip from a stop would be better.
Most of those I piss off are the ones racing up to the red lights.

Read post #5 in this thread. It says the motor is limited to 75 amps, which is 22hp. The motor is much stronger, but limited there at 22.
This is correct.
What it is rated for at redline is not the same as what it is setup to do.

It is setup to run at 22 HP in EV mode which is why it feels so incredibly sluggish. This is what also makes the components last 15 years and more.

I'm not completely sure. They got a break down from dyno showing peak output of the electric motor, sadly the search function makes it very hard to find these posts.
I think you confused torque with horsepower. The motor has impressively high torque, but is software limited to low horsepower.

I’ve only had my Maverick hybrid for a month and it’s my first hybrid. So I have to ask how do you get your Mav to drive in electric mode at 55 mph?
Hit 60mph , ease off the accelerator, then lightly press after hitting regen. If you are on a flat area it will go a decent ways like this. Easier to get this if you are on even the smallest downward slope before it flattens out. Use the EV Coach on the Dash, you will get the hang of it.

I know there is a place for a second battery, just curious if anyone has added or researched adding a second battery?
The people that upgraded their old Priuses to Lithium batteries tend to swear it is a better experience, with more electric time and better mpg, so a larger "bucket " helps in their case. They don't have the added weight since they are upgrading, not adding, but it may work out to a small benefit in the Maverick. Some people just do it so they can run electric accessories like the Air Conditioner longer between the engine cycling.

No doubt you get more electric time with a larger battery. But without upgrading a bunch of other stuff, software for one, you won't get more performance.

So what's the benefit?
Next to nil.

Without a plug, 100% of your energy comes from gasoline. The benefit is if you have lots of hills, you can recoup more of that potential energy from gravity. But it's a trivial amount over the life of the truck.
A couple of gallons of gas, cumulative.

If you were FORCED to replace the battery, and larger was available at same cost (say in 10 years) for sure it would be fun to have.

After you come out of "Charge" mode, if it skips Electric mode and goes directly to "Hybrid," briefly let off the accelerator one more time and it will usually throw it to "Charge," then "Electric" mode. And like you said, using the EV Coach can show you how to do it.

I usually try to get up to speed quickly to piss off the diesel dinosaurs next to me at lights, it allows me to get into electric mode faster, several of my friends are driving Ram and F-350 diesel powered and ask if I'm still getting 43+ mpg overall. Love my Mav hybrid....

Shirley Muldowney is 83, would she be considered an “old lady”?

Maybe some day a PHEV will be available. The upcharge in $$$ will reflect that of course. Price out an PHEV Escape for a sample comparison.

To demonstrate getting to speed quickly and how little it can affect mpg set mode to econ or preferably slippery set cruise 40-45 mph then drive say 20 miles using the X button to exit cruise and resume button after speed drops 12-15 mph say once every mile or so. You can see 30-40% power usage while resuming although for less than a second usually and dropping to electric. MPG should still be 47-55 mpg on dash. May work similarly in regular mode, I have not tried it. Shooting for 30-35% energy use on acceleration dropping to electric may be optimal particularly if driving with AC or HEAT on.

What's that you say???

I accelerate with the flow of traffic at 20% power. 30% is brisk and 40% can be considered jackrabbit take off in my hybrid Mav.
