Thank you! Although I think the improved HF55 power-split transmission is mostly due to the needs of AWD and 4k towing.

A lot of people are ignorant to the fact that the 2025+ hybrids have a noticeably improved drivetrain over the earlier models, probably because Ford made no advertisement about it. And even among the people who know that upgrades were made, many of them don't realize that ALL hybrids get the improved power-split trans (no need for AWD or 4k towing packages, if you just want the improved power and beefier cooling). The massive price jump for the hybrid wasn't only inflation and price-gouging. There was a substantial upgrade hidden in plain sight.

The real winners might be the owners of pre-2025 hybrids who have inflated resale value, because buyers don't realize there is a difference.
But as it gets known, the values will correct themselves.

Sheesh...... But, this might be a reason to upgrade. Edit: .....Soon.

I think the same thing can be said for the EcoBoost Maverick's also, Ford stayed quiet about the new 2.0 with the dual injection as well.

True, although that one makes a bit more sense to me, because the updates to the Ecoboost were a mixed bag (the new GPF on the Ecoboost probably reduces power, although the specs didn't change), and the improvement of cleaner intake valves is less tangible than "more power and better efficiency".

I don't think Ford did this for any of our benefit, however. The were protecting their end of year sales and future resale values too!

A lot of pooh-poohing the idea of a larger battery. Some seem to think anything more than the current battery should just be a 50 mile range plug-in.

Thats BS.

A plug in would be 10x the size, which is a lot of weight and cost.

Simply doubling it would improve performance, make normal acceleration in EV mode a thing and it would greatly increase regen capability.

It would add about 100 lbs and probably a few hundred dollars.

I for one would love a PHEV maverick.

I don't think it's the idea/concept of it being asked/commented about.

It's how to get it integrated to be used as you state - improve performance, acceleration, increased regen.

All of that would require reprograming several modules.

Without that - you have a range extender.

not even 100lbs. I think the current suit case battery checks in around 45lbs

Didn't realize it was that weight. I thought I saw 80-90 lbs.

And I realize the OP was talking about adding on. I was thinking more in the future.

If the battery truly is under 50 lbs, I would like to see it tripled and EV only boosted to around 70hp. That would get it close to EB numbers.

My only issue with a plug in is that its a lot of battery weight which takes away from payload.
True but there are ways to fix that. the PHEV ranger sold overseas, for example, is heavier then the US ranger yet it has a 400 lb higher payload rating.

US vehicles are often sold with very soft suspension and lower payload ratings then they are overseas. The Mav could be given stiffer suspension to cope with the weight, but since there is additional weight, it would cancel out the spring load.

it's not more battery that I want, but more regenerative braking.

At 45, there is a range of distance from which you just can't stop from just regeneration when a light goes yellow (says one of half a dozen people in Las Vegas that actually slow down instead of race the light!).

I've resented bleeding off my kinetic energy as waste heat as long as I've been driving (ok, so I was a physics & engineering major . . .)

Anyway, in Las Vegas you can't simply slow down for a yellow light when it happens. You have to check your rear view mirror first, confirm that the guy behind you isn't accelerating, and only then can you brake!)

The two are linked. You need sufficient battery capacity for regenerative braking to be effective, and the battery int he Mav is too small, so it fills up very fast.

I get this. I have many downhills in the western states. The hybrid battery is full in under 1 minute of downhill.

But I get this is an all purpose vehicle built for the average conditions.
