I run my 22 non hybrid on 87 reg fuel. Hearing people get more horsepower and better for engine to run on high test. Any opinions?
On my new 2025 yes, except for the 1st tank from my dealership. I had a 2022 and the wife still has the 2024 model. I traded the 2022 in on my 2025. On the 2022 I ran 87 since its life at almost 60k miles when I had it. Luckily no issues besides all the recalls. 2024 model I started running premium in the summer time months. I noticed better gas mileage and easier idling. It did not have an issue except for a little rough idling and a clogged injector. Ran that for 11k miles niw and it runs smoother than the 2022 did. Could be updates by Ford to the build from those years though. My 2025 2.0L will continue to run premium as I am getting the mpg I want at 20ish around town and 23 highway. If I had a hybrid I would use the same grade. Just a personal preference.

Open your fuel door, look at the sticker installed by Ford and then tell me they can deny a warranty claim following FORD'S recommendation. How do they know what temperature you have been driving in or the load you were towing?
The computer tracks alot of information. Your braking is tracked, how much force is applied when stopping changes when towing. The load on the engine changes when towing, it's all tracked. How do they know what temperature you drive in? Most likely because the dealer is located near you.

Yes you can be denied warranty coverage from not following Fords recommendation, ive personally seen it. Thyley dont put it in the OM for no reason. Its there to cover their ass when theres a problem. The dealer isnt there to help you. Ask the mustang ecoboost crowd how many stock engines went boom from running 87 and were denied warranty coverage.

I've now owned 4 ford ecoboost vehicles, 2 fullsize trucks, 1 midsize sedan, and 1 compact truckish.

All have been fueled with 87 for the life of the vehicle without any major issues or fuel system problems.

3 of the 4 vehicles have outlasted they're included btb warranty. While the last is still within the btb warranty.

I fill-up at the exact same gas station as well as keep a record should a future issue pop up due to fuel.

Does it have to be 99 or 100 degrees for Ford to deny my warranty? It doesn't say in the owner's manual.

I've had Ford dealer ownership in my family for over 60 years. I can tell you that the denials you're suggesting don't happen there, so I'd suggest you form a better relationship with yours or find another.

After my Maverick sat at the dealer for four months, I filled it's second tank full with Premium 93. Then twice when I towed after the 1,000 mile break in.

60 years? Damn, I’ll bet your family has seen more recalls than Henry himself! Oh, wait a minute, Henry has never seen a recall! But they’re sure as hell startin now!!! 🤭

It's funny that you mention that... I've owned two new Fords in the past 13 years, and those have had a combined total of three recalls, only one of which was for my 2024 Maverick.

Henry's cars only had defects, no recalls. ;)

And around here you will pay $1.00+ more per gallon, definitely not worth it. JMHO.
Around here some stations 91 octane is listed as ethanol free. A couple of those are listed as Top Tier and it is the same price as normal premium gasoline here. That's to say you still pay a premium price, but nothing different than other premium fuel in the area.

The station I go to that has ethanol-free gas has a separate hose for it. It's only 89 octane, though.

I remember, some 40+ years ago, driving my 12.5:1 289 Mustang to the local air strip, and filling up with 100 octane AV gas, just like at a gas station....🤣 How times have changed.....🫤
A friend of mine did the same thing at the local county airport and my other good buddy may He RIP wasn't happy with Him.They only wanted You filling up Gas Cans not driving your car up to the pumps and filling it up. :)

It's an easy choice for me since Costco here has 91 or 85. 85 is what the majority of people use, and yeah, it's sort of similar to 87 at altitude, but since every owners manual ever made says not to use it, I don't.

As far as performance and such, there is definitely a difference, but it's something you can't quantify with a butt dyno. Every ecoboost has dynamic spark tables that are based on an octane modifier. The more knock the ECU experiences, the worse your octane modifier and the less aggressive the spark is. This doesn't usually affect peak horsepower too much, at least not in a way that's noticeable. Most of the difference ends up affecting the torque curve lower in the rev range, since the ECU has to rely more on boost instead of ignition timing. I'm sure most people running 87 in the summer will have a lower than 1.0 (ideal) KOM value, but it doesn't matter at all from a safety perspective. That's what the system is for, to keep things safe. It also matters what you're doing with the engine. If you're towing 4000 pounds up a mountain pass on 87 on a regular basis, you're 100% gonna notice a difference moving to premium. Just driving around town with the occasional highway onramp? Probably not.

I ran my 22 Eco on 87 for more than 3 years, ran great to the day I sold it, got so/so milage on stop and go 17/18 local driving but great highway mileage 35/38?
I now have a 25 Lariat Hybrid and found out about Top Tier fuel and started using it,
in some cases its only few cents more if that, so I said why not, let you know in a few years if it helps, I think the Top Tier would benefit the Eco vehicles much more as the vehicle gets older. There are many documented carbon issues with the 2.0, my dealer says he always has one being torn down in the shop every week mostly older vehicles.
