His post was useful, yours, not so much. I'm happy for you anyways.
There was no need to insult me. Some of these fluid change intervals are way too long, like lifetime fluids some say you can get away with. OEMs don't want your vehicle to last. They want to sell you a new one every few years. It isn't in their interests for your vehicle to last 300k miles. I really don't care how long you go before you change your fluids. I am just saying what I am going to do. That is why I don't like buying used vehicles. I don't know how they were taken care of.

I get what he is saying but there is no way I have to know how much my engine is running or not running. I guess you can look at the oil and see how dirty it is. I am not going by that oil life monitor to judge when to change my oil. 5 or 6k miles and mine is getting an oil change, but I will likely hit the year first. Oil is cheap. Engines are expensive.

Your apology is accepted. Your post was totally uncalled for and USELESS.

Kings Ford - Cincinnati got me $124.99 for simple oil change. Not even tire rotation since it was only 4000 miles in and they said they'd do it next time. Has me thinking one of those Valvoline instant places next time, esp since it took 90 min to do it ....
Not all dealers are smart or honest.
Smart would be cheap oil changes with a chance to look the car over to find more work before trouble advances to where the vehicle craps out.
Then the customer tells everyone that dealer sells crappy cars.

I'm gonna' have to pass on the 3000 mile trip to Canada in February. I live in South Florida brother. It was 76 and sunny here today. On the upside, by the time I went and came back, I could probably change my oil again. Whee...
Okay, I'm gonna say this once: North in the Summer, South in the winter.

Not just the engine. My brother in law was going to replace his battery for non performance. I pried off the "non-maintenance" covers, found it dry and filled it. Works better now.

My Hybrid is 2 years old. I change my oil every 5500 miles or one year, what ever comes first. I get full synthetic and rotation for $60 out the door. Both first and second year I got the "Change Oil" message at one year as I was under 5500 miles.

As for those that didn't know, the computer knows exactly the status of your oil based on Hours, miles, and Date. The Hybrid also keeps track of Electric miles too. Every Hybrid will display this information according to how the vehicle is driven. In my case, I'm at about 30% electric so the ICE has about 70% of the total miles shown on the odometer.

Good on you. I absolutely couldn't get it until I upgraded to that little Hyper Tough puller. It cranked right down on spun it. I'll take a bit of the blame as the truck was not warmed before the attempt. Sometimes heat is your friend in these cases.
And when you got hot enough it came off!

At 72 yrs old I have better thing to do, and it is only $5.00 to $20.00 cheaper do a oil change at home. But if I pay the dealership to do the oil change I can never have a warranty problem with oil in the engine. I find no time saving in doing the oil change myself .The time to go get and buy the oil ,do the oil change and take the used oil to the recycling center. Plus the problems of carry oil in my vehicle both way and problem of getting oil stain on the vehicle and clean-up. To save $5.00 to $20.00 and not get the free hand car wash !

I hope you added 5.5 quarts and not 6.

6 is usually too much. You can always add a little more later. But it's a royal PITA to take a little out.
I think the estimate that I started at was 5.7 qts. but I got 6 in with the change to the slightly bigger filter. I took my time and added the last bit slowly. It is sitting right at the top of the hash marks and I'm happy.

If it's physically difficult for someone to do I get it. But anyone arguing about it being a time savings needs to do the math. Every time I'm at the dealer I regret it. Last time I was at the Toyota dealer I spent 30 minutes just waiting for their driver to show up and give me a ride to work. If the oil change wasn't covered I wouldn't have been there.

I got one free oil change from the Ford dealer and I needed an inspection (free as well, woot!). They also did some recalls but they foolishly did the recalls before the inspection so then they had to drive the truck around to pass emissions. So I had to wait until the next day to get my truck back. Fortunately they agreed to drive it to my house.

These are my last two dealer experiences. Why would I want to subject myself to that?
At some point, I realized that there are like 7 billion little experiments walking around on this planet. Some of those own vehicles. Every one has his own opinion/likes-dislikes/fears, etc. I like to change the oil so I do. Some people don't so that's cool for them. Sharing opinions for consideration is helpful. Thinking your way is best is partially right, it's right to you but not necessarily for everyone else. As I read this, I feel like I'm being an ass to the poster it's attached to and that isn't my intent. I just got this urge and this was the first available post when I looked up. Peace.

I don't mind if people don't want change their own oil. It's just never going to be faster to bring it to the dealer because it just takes to long, has to be at a certain time, etc.
