I haven't done an oil change on the maverick yet but on my other cars the time savings of doing it myself is worth it. Every time I go to the dealer I either need to get a ride or wait. Plus I need to drive there and back. Active time doing an oil change is probably 20 minutes. While the oil drains (not active time) I just do some other chores around the house.
I used to do all my oil changes when I was younger. I am 65 now and my back isn't what it used to be. I will just take it to the dealer and let them do it. It allows me to get out of the house and look around in the showroom. The only thing I will do anymore is change air filters and wiper blades.

...The manual states that no matter the mileage, do not exceed 12 months between changes.
Correct, and probably why OP's OilLifeMonitor told him it was nearing time for an oil change. Probably good to get the break-in oil & tiny OEM filter off the truck, regardless.

I hope you added 5.5 quarts and not 6.

6 is usually too much. You can always add a little more later. But it's a royal PITA to take a little out.
A little to much probably won't hurt anything but a lot too much is just as bad as not having enough. If you hydrolock that engine you have problems. Too much oil in the crankcase can also cause the seals to start leaking.

Reports from many indicate it does not just do time.
TruDat. But it will always remind you right around the 12 month mark, if the other factors haven't triggered the reminder yet.

That is what they say but if you only drive a few hundred or a couple thousand miles a year, a yearly oil change may be overkill. Many classic car owners may go a couple of years between changes. I may drive 4-6k miles a year and I do yearly oil changes. I won't go over 6k miles no matter what the time is.

The last time I did the oil change myself I owned a new 1974 Chevy Van and I was 22 years old and the Auto parts store parts man gave me the wrong oil filter . So four quarts of oil on my parent driveway and that was my last time I did a oil change . If I met that auto part man now I would thank him ,I could work that same amount of time it take to do a change and earn sometimes double the money and somebody could do the oil change at the dealership. I how 72 yrs old. Car dealership have oil change on sale all the time.
At first you don't succeed try try again.
I am the opposite. When I was younger I had someone do most of my oil changes. I can do an oil change now about 1/3 the price of most places and use full synthetic oil. I drain the old oil for a long time to get every last drop sludge. I feel I do a better job than some mechanics.
I have made a mistake or two along the way, over confident perhaps. Forgot to put oil back in once and started Chevy van for a minute or so. It still runs great though. Now I put oil container on engine to remind me.
Also stripped out a couple aluminum oil pan bolts. Now I am very careful and use a short handle for tightening.
Live and learn.

If it's physically difficult for someone to do I get it. But anyone arguing about it being a time savings needs to do the math. Every time I'm at the dealer I regret it. Last time I was at the Toyota dealer I spent 30 minutes just waiting for their driver to show up and give me a ride to work. If the oil change wasn't covered I wouldn't have been there.

I got one free oil change from the Ford dealer and I needed an inspection (free as well, woot!). They also did some recalls but they foolishly did the recalls before the inspection so then they had to drive the truck around to pass emissions. So I had to wait until the next day to get my truck back. Fortunately they agreed to drive it to my house.

These are my last two dealer experiences. Why would I want to subject myself to that?

Dealers that have a quick lane will usually get you in and out in a couple of hours. I don't think I was there an hour at Fort Mill Ford back in Sept. Some dealers now will pick up your vehicle and service it and bring it back to you and some service your vehicle at your home or work, though I don't know what the extra charge is for that. It isn't a matter of time savings to me. I don't care to get under it anymore and when I am done I have a gallon of dirty oil that I have to get rid of. I hear places like Advance Auto Parts will take your old oil and recycle it. At least if you do it yourself you know it was done right. Some of these places don't know what they are going. They over-tighten oil filters and then try to sell stuff you don't need.

Unless you're driving all highway miles, your Hybrid's gasoline engine hasn't run nearly 6k miles.
Doesn't matter to me. I am not going over 6000 miles. Oil is cheap. Engines are expensive.

Blackstone's analysis for Hybrid says a much longer interval on the Hybrid w/ full synthetic (not ecoboost) is fine. 12k ODO analysis was mostly non-highway miles. If a Hybrid is driven almost all highway, the OLM will recommend a much shorter interval.

I trust Blackstone analysis.

For me, I would guess-timate future oil changes at about 30 minutes. Dropping and replacing that shield takes a little time. This first one with the lack of the proper tool and the stuff that entailed ran me into hours. But that's me and I'm slow...

You do what you want with your vehicle. Mine is getting an oil change every 5-6k or one year.

It doesn't appeal to me to deal with that skid plate. I wonder how many of them are gone in 5 years?

His post was useful, yours, not so much. I'm happy for you anyways.
