245 vs 235

Thinking about upgrading my wheels and tires when my OEM tires are done. I am at 15k miles now and have only had the Maverick about a year. I am a 25 Fwd Hybrid. I am actually looking at wheels that are an inch wider than the steelies and thinking about going to a 235/65 r 17 or a 245/65 r 17. Anyone that has done it what has your experience been and what would you recommend? I know either way I am looking at reduced mpg due to the rolling resistance of more rubber on the ground, and the potential weight differences.

if you like the new look then do it - you'll probably lose 5 percent in mileage but over the course of a year and 12K miles it's probably less than 100 bucks.

If you like the look of the black Maverick FX4 wheels Ford Motorsports has the deal of the century. Bronco Sport First Edition fit the Mavericks perfectly, and look almost identical to the FX4. I just purchased my 3rd set this week from Levittown Ford. $606 for 4 new wheels perfectly boxed, 4 center Caps and 4 315mhz tpms and tool. 2025/26 Mavericks use different tpms so I’ll sell the included sensors. Zero sales tax and $125 total shipping.

My tires arrived today, I wanted to balance weight vs size and got the widest 235s available (vs weight) , the Continental Crosscontact Lx which have a tread width of 8.1” (almost an inch wider than all other 235s, and weight 28lbs, only 3 lbs more than the stock tires. The Bronco Sport wheels weigh 22.8 lbs which I believe is less than the steelies so your net mounted weight may be exactly like stock.

I have about 90,000 miles on 245/70/17(30.5” diameter) tires with no lift or leveling kit. No rubbing or any of that nonsense. Fills up the wheel well a little better.

The day after I picked it up from the dealership.

All terrains were too noisy so I got some EV SUV all seasons in the same size on my factory steelies. Those were dead quiet on the road. No photos on those wheels since it just looked stock with a beefier tire.

Currently sitting on 255/50/20 (30” diameter) and lowered and still no rubs or anything.

I went to a 235/70/17 Goodyear Workhorse AT and a HRG front level kit. Lost 4 MPG. Not sure if its just the tread design but definitely hurt it. Lost about 5 MPG towing. I would expect the 245 to loose even more

Going from 235 to 245 is only 0.4" width increase. Staying with 65 aspect ratio increases the diameter by about .25".

I went 235 Wildpeak at trails on my AWD hybrid and the hit to MPG was around 10%.

245s are unnecessary for the Maverick in my opinion.

Agree. I run them, but would go 235/65 or 70 if I had to do it again. Less weight, less hit to mileage, barely any drop in ground clearance.

Every time I went with a wider tire performance ( gas milage, traction, etc. ) got worse. Unless you're racing stock would be best. The wider is only for appearances.

Going from 235 to 245 is only 0.4" width increase. Staying with 65 aspect ratio increases the diameter by about .25".

I went from a 225/65/17 to a 235/70/17. 0.4 inches wider 1.5 inches taller and that was my results. A loss of 4-5MPG. A 245 would be 0.8 inches wider than stock so even bigger loss. The loss of torque is noticeable too
