Hello fellow Maverick’ers

I just picked up my 2025 Maverick hybrid AWD and am experiencing what can best be described as a rev hang issue.

I want to start off by saying this is my 3rd Maverick hybrid and I am very familiar with how these vehicles drive. January 2022 I got a 22 XLT which I drove for 80,000 kms, then ordered a 2023 Lariat which I wracked up 70,000kms on and I just picked up my 2025 2 days ago (I had to have the AWD).

This 2025 Maverick is doing something my other 2 did not. At low speeds even with my foot off the gas, it’s holding the revs. This morning for example I pull out of my driveway, it is in ‘ hybrid’ mode using gas and I accelerate up to 40kms/hr when I take my foot off the gas and coast, it holds the revs and they will not drop. It’s almost like a manual car in 1st gear, revving very high. So I’m coasting down the road, and the motor is screaming.
My previous 2 mavericks never did this, right when you took your foot off the gas, especially at low speeds the motor would shut off and go into electric mode. I tried putting the vehicle into neutral while coasting and the revs still hang.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I do not like it, especially when the motor is cold I don’t like that’s it’s revving high.
Any input appreciated.

Don’t know if it’s the same thing but on my 24 EcoBoost, when I take my foot off the go pedal, the mph’s go down slowly but rpm’s stay the same for quite a while before dropping. No biggy I’m guessing.

Mine does that when warming up the engine. And you're right, the revs are higher than the Prius v it replaced, so took a bit to get used to.

Did you accidentally put into ‘Sport’ drive mode. I had a very similar experience today. At first I thought it was just because of the cooler weather 3C, but after a short drive I realized I had accidentally put it into ‘Sport’ mode. Changed to ‘Eco’ and all back to normal.

No this is in normal drive mode. It really makes the driving experience less smooth. It should be switching to electric immediately when I take my foot off the pedal. I’m going to bring it up to my dealer and see what they say..

My 25 also does this on a cold start for the first few minutes. My 22 did not. I’m thinking this is on purpose to warm up the ICE faster and top off the hybrid battery. Whenever I remote start it and let it warm up for 15 minutes it does not do it.

My 2025 AWD does that once in a while. My guess is it does that when the hybrid battery has a low charge.

"Power Flow" app. should be informative here. When ICE is running it will tell you why it is.

My ecoboost has rev hang on one particular downslope. Been like that since I bought it. In normal mode. Put it in eco and it doesn't happen. I blame it on fuzzy adaptive logic in the transmission, but I'm guessing about that.

I have this same issue with my 23 XLT hybrid. Sounds like I down shifted. One day last week I thought it over reved. It was a bit concerning.

How do you see the rpms. I think 2025 hybrid doesn't have tachometer gauge to show on the screen.

If the battery SOC happens to be below 40% it'll keep the ICE running until above that.
Of course for cold too.
1600 RPM abouts prior to MY25, perhaps it's a tad higher, perhaps just louder.
Not really racing though, not like initial startup in cold around 2400 RPM.

You may just be hitting spots you never noticed it before - perhaps more so with the Lariat and more sound insulation.
