Never have I heard of anyone burning up a fuel pump due to low gas. Never ever.

The crap in the tank is still in the tank whether it’s full or empty If it’s in the bottom of the tank, the fuel pump might suck it in. If your tank is full, the fuel pump doesn't suck gas higher up in the tank. Therefore the amount of fuel and crap in a tank are not related

I tend to refill at about the 50 miles remaining mark. That's less than a quarter on the gauge but before the low fuel warning comes up, which seems fine to me. Emergency travel wouldn't be more than 15 miles (nearest ER) anyway.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have a data point that may be useful: drove 2 miles past 0 miles indicator today and put in 16.2 gallons to fueling shut off. This would seem to leave 0.3 gallon reserve in this 2025 EB Maverick.

... Not a fan of the new look. The screen is huge and there’s plenty of space for a traditional meter...
I agree. And one of several reasons I skipped ordering a '25 model and decided to keep my '23. There's no reason to change some things just for the sake of change.

You need to run until the truck stops.
Just one time.
Then refill.

I'm gonna bet you a box of donuts you'll put about 18.5 gallons back in. Maybe 19.

Why would Ford publish 16.5 gallon fuel capacity for the 2025 EB Maverick but have an actual 19 gallon tank installed instead?

Never have I heard of anyone burning up a fuel pump due to low gas. Never ever.
I've never met a mechanic who has heard of a manual transmission dropping it's oil.

Yet my Miata managed!

My sons 2024 Escape has the same exact digital gage cluster as the 2025 Maverick. Road trip from Detroit to Orlando. I learned to hate the gas gauge. It got to the point to where I just looked at the miles to empty vs how many segments were lit on the gas gauge. At one point miles to empty was 123 and there were only 2 segments lit on the gas gauge. I knew each segment was not equal to 60 miles of travel. We did end up going around 120 miles with one segment still showing. There is little coloration to segments lit and how many gallons are actually left in tank. If you divide the segments (in the gas gauge) into the capacity of the tank it does not work out to MPG traveled on a particular tank. Hope that makes sense? I used the gas gauge as a general reference and Miles To Empty as the more accurate "gauge".

Because it's the lawyers.
Deliver more than advertised, no one can sue. Other way around, and people
are only too happy to sue.

Also 16.5 is what the computer uses to calculate your range. To guarantee you make it, there has to be more. Some say to "keep the pump cool" there has to be more. Anyway you want to look at it, you have more than 16.5 on board you can use in an emergency.

Are you happy you got a larger tank than promised?

Yep, I learned the hard way back in the late 90's. I was in a meeting mid afternoon on a saturday at church, all of a sudden the pastor's assistant came in to get me, strange I thought. Once in the hallway, I got the news my father had a heart attack and I need to get to the hospital quickly. I had driven my wife's car that day, didn't get far before I noticed the gas gauge was at the empty mark. I panicked, thankfully a gas station was close by. Turned in almost on two wheels, started putting gas in, ran in and paid then quickly back on my way to the hospital, 10-15 miles away. Ran in to see him, he passed like 5 minutes before I got there. Stunned, there was alot I would have liked to say and talk about before the end.
Needless to say, no vehicle I own ever gets below 1/2 tank since then. You just never know what nor when critical events can take place.
Not at all meant to be a sad story. Just a thought, a reminder to for us to ponder, what is so important that causes us to push things to the limit?
Very sorry for your loss, my sincere condolences to you and your family! I won't be running my tank low again.

Throw a few fuel cans in the back if running low on fuel is a regular occurrence.

Yes TRM, I think that 0.3 gallon reserve beyond 0 miles indicator is not likely and tank capacity must certainly be greater than 16.5 gallons and also that 1.5 gallons is a typical reserve amount. I will not take your bet or challenge to run this Maverick dry even though I am curious to know. Perhaps some other intrepid MTC EB member/owner will do this experiment and report back in this thread with the results.

Drove 465 miles to zero mile indicator. Drove another 37 miles to empty and refueled with 0.5 gal from gas can in truck bed and then pumped 17.4 gallons to full at station only 0.2 miles away.
So the fuel capacity on this 2025 EB Maverick is approximately 17.9 gallons. The math also cross checks with average 28 MPG for this tank of gas.

You're not far off.

A few people have put in about 18.5.
Can depend on slope, how much air you can get to escape while filling, and a few other things.

This is a real world situation. I moved to Virginia many years ago. Gas stations less than 3 miles from my house and a grocery store about 5 miles. The next places to buy food and fuel 20 to 25 miles away. RURAL. I let me tank get below 1/4 tank because why not gas right up the road when I need it. Hurricane came through, new event for me, no power in my county for 8 days and neighboring areas to the county for 5. Couldn't go to buy food, ice etc. because not enough gas to get to areas that had power.
If only there was some way to know that a hurricane was on its way and you could have purchased gas ahead of time.
