I bought a Mockins 750 lb cap bed truck extender so I can haul my canoe. I saw hitches on the internet for anywhere between $120 and $400. I'm being quoted $420 from U Haul to have one installed. Does this seem right? Any input as to where or how to get one installed?

Those prices seem right in line with what it cost to install receiver hitch post production. I don't know if that includes wiring.

It's really a shame.🙁
It was only $100 factory option including the wiring package when the truck was ordered.😲

U Haul wouldn't be my first choice. Service is variable dependent on specific location. For a '17 Terrain I contacted a local vehicle customizer. Small job for them, but they were happy to get the work and did a great job. Call around to a few local shops. For a small job like this you should get an idea from a quick phone call how good their service is.

I was following a Maverick yesterday and noticed it didn't have a trailer hitch. I can't believe anyone would skip the basic $100 hitch, on a pickup of all things...

I agree
In reality it should be built into the price of the truck and if you don't want it, it should be a $100 delete.
Curt VS Draw-tite VS Maverick OEM
All 3 are manufactured for the Ford Maverick. All three will accomplish the same job, although when mounted they may be different aesthetically. Whether you like the looks or not, that's a personal issue and not one of functionality.

Those who bought a Ford Maverick without a hitch and now desire one. Will prefer to install one of the aftermarket hitches versus Ford OEM. Especially if they don't want to go through everything it takes to install a Ford OEM hitch.
Disassembling the back of a Maverick in order to install an OEM Hitch.

Here is a picture of a Curt hitch being installed without disassembling the back of the Maverick

In my opinion. The steps involved installing an oem shown in the first photo. Is far more difficult than installing an aftermarket shown in the second photo. But that's just an opinion based on my personal skill level and past experience. Some folks don't recognize that, just because they can easily do the job.
That does not mean everyone else can.

You've not been here long enough to know that the first year, and into the second year there were supply chain shortages.

There were not enough hitches to meet demand. Some had to skip it or no truck at all.

Aesthetics a big deal. I ordered a factory hitch for my wife’s odyssey - removed the bumper cover, bumper, installed the hitch, and notched the bumper cover so the hitch sits flat against the bumper cover and not low and extended where the whole crossmember is visible.

Aesthetically, the Curt is pretty close to the OEM hitch. It also leaves the original crash bar in place, and mounts underneath it, so the rear bumper does not need to be removed.

Correct. I guess I was saying U-Haul will not use Curt and will look bad.

EDIT: Can't find the post but a member had a Ford dealership put an aftermarket hitch on their Mav and it looked...............not great.
