I did mostly normal mode for my first 300 or so miles, and then made a point to switch to eco mode each trip. I also do mostly travel a variety of roads with 35-55mph speed limits. Are you guys doing all eco or normal?
I’m about 300 miles into my hybrid mav. Averaging 39 mpg mostly in eco.
I do better when I can go 50-60 mph with some stop and go. My drive to work is mostly 40-45 mph and I am struggling to get those trips above 40 mpg which I find strange. Am I doing it wrong?![]()
Agreed there!Using cruise when I can. Makes a big difference!
My driving rule for getting gas is "half = empty."Know that when the car manufacturing poobahs first decided to place a fuel pump inside the gas tank there was more than a slight chance of the pump seizing up from overheating if the tank often dropped below a quarter full.
Presumably that is no longer so?
I will upload my image when I have to fill up, but i am currently averaging 46mpg.. and climbing, i think i have a little over a quarter tank left, but i am thinking i should be close to the 700 mile mark..So here we are, five miles from officially getting 600 miles per tank on the hybrid with a little left in the tank…. Anyone else approaching 600 miles per tank? ( yes I realize driving style and conditions vary, but hey…it’s still great mileage)

its just safer to allow a new pump to wear in first before running without cooling (ie empty fuel tank). I think after wears in, normal driving to less than a 1/4 tank is fine. I had to replace a fuel pump on a 2001 tahoe 5.7. thought I reinforced NEVER letting the fuel tank drop below half for first couple tanks. Well, dropped below on the first tank with new pump, aaaand the pump seized. so my pain makes me less likely to shoot for absolute number vs just enjoying the high mileage of this little truck that can!My driving rule for getting gas is "half = empty."
Haven't had that AC issue. I only run AC on Low or set below 70 degrees, but always with recirculation on. I'm coming from a manual trans Mazda3 that I got mid-40s mpg from. Still getting better at driving Mav for higher MPG.New, that's some good numbers, I mirror your driving conditions, got 2 consecutive 700mpt. It was like I was reading my own bio.
Whats weird on the AC is I have to turn mine up to 77-78° and it still freezes me out on 102° days? Is yours like that? It still runs and cools at 77°.
Yeah AC goes pretty hard in mine, except on extremely hot days today where it's nearly 100 degrees, the temperature set to 74/75 feels about right. But on 80-degree days I personally set it to like 83/84 to get comfortable and not feel too cold. I run kinda cold anyway though so I may not be the best judge of this.New, that's some good numbers, I mirror your driving conditions, got 2 consecutive 700mpt. It was like I was reading my own bio.
