800+ miles per tank club!!!

So I hit over 800 miles on one tank for the 1st time, and probably the last time unless I have a backup fuel tank with me.

I hit the "0 Mi to E" at 745 miles. From this point I set my Trip 2 to record the mileage after the gauge said I hit 0.

I usually fill up when I hit or are close to the system's estimate of zero miles left. In those cases my fill up would be anywhere between 13.7-14.1 gallons. After seeing a post of someone filling up to 16 gal I thought I would push my luck. I did have a 1 gal back up gas container after I hit zero, but will not plan to do this often. Unless you usually have a rack with backup fuel container just fill up. Not worth pushing it especially since you dont know what driving style you will use for those las 2-2.5 gallons. I made it to 67 miles past 0 so I assumed that I was at bout 15 gal used. I did my usual three clicks at the pump and I assumed wrong.

I used 14.8 gal witch came out to 54.8 MPG on this tank (best ever was 55.7 mpg). I did take the freeways more than I thought I would and I also did a long drive from San Jose to Manteca during rush hour with an accident, about 60 miles one-way 120 roundtrip. On the way back I was not in traffic, so if someone in the central valley has a Maverick and they drive both ways on HY 680 and HY 580 what kind of MPGs and MPT are you getting?

If the tank does actually hold 16.5 gal as on post suggested, the it could be possible to hit 900 miles on one tank, but I wont be trying that anytime soon. I might but not unless the conditions are right and I have time to get out on the side of the road with a filled backup tank.

I usually get between 50 and 60 mpg in nice weather. However its been cold.

My best was 52.9 MPG with 790 miles with probably a gallon or two still in the truck. I think 900 miles is possible but I'd need a contest with some kind of reward.

It will take incredible patience and determination and zero speed over 45 (unless going downhill ) to achieve 900 miles. But I see it as mathematically possible in a do or die Apollo 13 situation.

Same here Tom Tucker. I drive and fill up when it get's near empty. I'm too old to worry about mileage.

I can't wait to load up gear for the summer, hit the highway at 75 mph and get bad gas mileage. I'll actually be doing something fun at least, not like these boring hyper-milers.

It's hella fun. All my 55 MPG commutes save $$$ to pay for my play time hauling heavy stuff when MPG plummets.

A tad over Ford's recommendation but light enough and of moderate wind profile that I'm comfortable. It's only 6 feet wide which is rare, (most are wider) but has a pull out when parked.

Found this on Fords site about the gas tank sizes for the Maverick….

So apparently the Hybrid and the Ecoboost have different size tanks. Can you imagine how long you’d be able to go between fill ups with the larger tank?

I still haven't broken 500 miles or 40 mpg yet. I don't have a leadfoot so not sure if I have a lemon or what. Do you have to switch to Eco to get 40? I occasionally switch but usually just stick with Normal.

13.8 gallons is what the MTE is based on in the hybrid and 16.5 gallons is what the MTE is based on in the EcoBoost.

It is what you can reliably count on.

Both trucks have over 2 gallons, I think 2.5 gallons of fuel in the tank up and beyond those published values.

You don't have to mentally keep a reserve, it's built into both the tank size and the MTE calculation. You will not run out of fuel if you drive to MTE 0.

(Imagine the lawsuits and customer back-lash if it were off by one and you ran out at MTE 1. It's not going to happen.)

That's not good, yes you may have a lemon. Especially if I'm getting 500+ with my EcoBoost. When it's cold I get 400+ I use Eco as much as I can remember to switch it. Wish Ford would let it stay in Eco all the time.

I mean I could've hit 500. I was at 480 and said 30 miles to empty so it would've made it, but on fumes. I was expecting to get high 500s and occasionally hit 600. I'm only on my 4th tanks so hopefully it improves still.

Hi @skadizzle did you read my posts?

You were not on fumes or even close.
Up to you what you are comfortable doing. But you "had" a 500+ mile tank. You just didn't realize it!

Yes, but from what I gathered on here, I should be pushing 600-700 miles, not barely cracking 500 on fumes. I've only averaged 38mpgs also and my miles are 80-90% city

No lemon. Just watch a few videos on hypermiling. Fuel economy is 80% driver and only 20% car.
