It's a dumb design by Ford. 1st vehicle I've owned in 29 years of driving the wipers can't be flipped up. Some bean counter thought it was brilliant.
The wipers on my 2023 Maverick flip up just fine with the vehicle off and in park. Must be a design “improvement” for 2024(?)

Just want to reiterate what someone said above - if you flip up the wipers, be sure to put them back in the resting position before starting the vehicle! I don't flip them up, because I know there is a time I would make this mistake.

It's surely a dumb and irritating design for those of us in snow country, but I don't think it's terribly uncommon.

It's pretty common now.. Car companies are trying to get the most power and the best MPG they can and those wipers make a big difference on the vehicles efficiency. I think it was the honda Insight where I remember some of the engineers in an article discussing how the wipers themselveswind resistance was equal to that of the entire front end of the car.

So more and more you see them in the resting position buried in that gap under the hood. Just wish that Ford had a button like my Tesla where I can bump them out a few inches, and then pull them back if I want easily.

I lived through the 70's.
Having hidden windshield wipers is not new to me.
You will survive. 🙄

Now if I could just find my Aluminum Christmas Tree, Color Wheels and Rotating Stand.
Google it.

All you have to do on the Maverick is push them up manually. Don't need a button to do it.

No need for Google as I remember them well. Our family (actually my grandparents) had one in the 60's and used it well into the 90's. Fond memories of gathering around it opening gifts
and watching the tree change colors

Yeah, I'm getting old....

I just keep an empty windshield wiper fluid bottle and on rare Texas ice/snow on windshield;day I fill bottle with COLD TAP WATER AND POUR SLOWLY ON WINDSHIELD! Has worked very well since 1955 although originally I used gallon milk jugs or pitchers. Once however for an unknown reason in high school someone one very cold night smeared honey on my windshield. Couldn't prove a thing but it happened one week after I took my girlfriend's best friend to a dance. 😱😱
ETA: You think ICE is hard to clean off!!!
I live in the North East (UPSTATE New York) and haven't scraped ice off the windshield for many years. I keep the windshield treated with Rain-X. On cold frosty nights I fill a 2 quart bottle with water and leave it just inside the door overnight. In the morning that water poured on the windshield melts the ice and all water just rolls off leaving a clean windshield. Works great down to around 20 degrees F. Below that, allow the vehicle to warm up and start melting the frost before using the water.

NEVER use hot water!

I mean I don't have any problem lifting them before hitting the hood to clean the windshield or to swipe the blades. But for those of us that live in colder climates in the winter and get snow and ice it's going to be a pain in a dick to try and clean the snow and ice from the lower portion of the cowl.

Ford if you're listening FIX IT!
You think this is a Ford only thing?
Has nothing to with bean counting and I've had numerous vehicles like this over 40 years of vehicle ownership.
