It's not necessarily about rustproofing. I have a Tremor and when off-roading a lot of mud/dirt can get thrown up into the void. The passenger side is blocked in - but it's made from plastic. I suspect the reason the driver's side is exposed is because of the exhaust pipe and the heat it dissipates. Needs metal not plastic.I rustproof my trucks and while getting something up there may not be ideal, I haven't had any problems. My 2008 Ranger has, gasp, the same open area on both sides (oh, the horror). And the 16 winters it has survived are eastern Canadian winters. Having the open area is how pickups are made.
I use Krown, which does cost something yearly, but since the whole vehicle is being protected, I think it is worth it.
In the long term, using an aluminum panel might generate some corrosion issues due to different metals (steel and aluminum don't get along) I know this kit starts out with a nice finish, but it is not going to stay that way under there.
Gosh, I'm almost afraid to tell you this but there are (gasp) steel and aluminum parts touching all over your truck already, even underneath where the nice finish will surely wear off.In the long term, using an aluminum panel might generate some corrosion issues due to different metals (steel and aluminum don't get along) I know this kit starts out with a nice finish, but it is not going to stay that way under there.
Bah, I was too slow. I actually found this on Amazon browsing about 10 minutes ago and put it in my cart for later. Saw the post here with the discount, went back to my cart and now it says "Currently Unavailable"
The inspiration for this product came from an earlier post, discussing how to provide protection for the underbody blank area behind the rear left wheel. In addition, many people privately messaged me asking if I could develop a product to provide protection for this area. Meeting the needs of our customers is our mission. Therefore, in the end, we managed to create it.
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Mabett Underbody Cavity Shield Cover for Ford Maverick.

Nope, not a hybrid thing nor a china thing. mabett's Maverick is an early model with the big can resonator. newer models have the welded in perforated patch that takes it's place. smaller, lighter, cheaperNope, must be a Hybrid thing. My 24 XLT looks like this on the ds. Could also be a Chinese thing since mabbitt is in China, and they have a Maverick. I'm sure there might be requirements different for China than here in the US.

Good to know. Mine is enroute.Just installed mine on my 23 Tremor. No muffler in the way for me just the factory tail pipe. Install took about 30 minutes, and I followed the directions!!! I used my own sockets 10mm and 18mm. I also used a breaker bar on the 2 frame bolts on step 5. Fit and finish are great. Now I don't have to worry about mud and rocks etc.
