Anything that starts over $50k after the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit is just too damn expensive.

Automakers can try all they want to push the masses into luxury $60k+ EVs but when we simply cannot afford them we can't buy them.

For those that are not old enough.
The units DO have a "Scout" "I-H" look to them...

With ALL of these bells and whistles.. I can see the $$$ starting price, UP There... 😧
And that's like anything that's tooted to be "GREEN"... It is going to cost more $$$$

They're okay. Not great but not a bad attempt either. I like the front ends but they do look like rebadged Rivians as someone else already mentioned. I actually like the SUV better with the spare tire mounted to the tailgate. That helps make it look more rugged. Like a traditional off-road SUV should. The truck is nice and I do like the tailgate but it looks so much like the Rivian R1T. I'm convinced they're the same platform. As a result, they're both a bit soft around the edges. They need to be boxier, be body-on-frame and have full gasoline engines. Either V6s or even a V8, which the latter will never happen ever again. I'm sure they'll still sell since they'll live on the nostalgia of the International Scouts from the 60s and 70s.

Yes, I see the similarities. Back in the day when I needed a cheap beater truck, I purchased a 1967 International Harvester Scout (Right Hand Drive) used by the United States Postal Service. It was a one-seater, and I ended up putting a chair on the left side for a passenger. lol
  • Engine: 152ci 4-cylinder engine with Borg-Warner BW8 automatic transmission
  • Rear-Wheel Drive (2WD) with Limited-Slip Differential
  • Right-Hand Drive (RHD) with the shifter on the dash
  • Both sides had rear windows.

Wow I was surprised to see a bench seat in the front.

2027 will be right before my son goes to college and I'll likely give him the Maverick anyway. I put my $100 down. After thinking about it last night, the gas extender on the truck at this price range is closer to what I'm looking for. I'll make decision to actually pull the trigger after the final price list comes out.

I was really hoping it would have been closer in size to the Ranger than the F-150. The Terra is 18" wider and 30" longer than the Maverick. 😱🤯 I can fit the additional length in my garage without too much difficulty, but an extra foot and a half of width is probably way too much to make it comfortable getting in and out of our vehicles in our 2 car garage.

I know the moderators of this board strive to keep politics out of the discussion, so I will tread carefully..... I have disclosed several times on various discussion threads that I work in the oil and gas industry, so I admit to a bias in favor of ICE vehicles over EVs.

Just my opinion, those who purchase an EV aren't helping the environment to the extent they think they are. The current administration, through the EPA, has effectively decreed that 65-70% of new vehicles by 2032 shall be EVs. That's the only way to meet the CAFE standards that EPA has set out.

The $7,500 tax credit is just another example of the government distorting the market to achieve a desired outcome.

All this being said, these appear to be really nice vehicles, but I won't be buying them.

Interesting looking vehicle. The gas extender is an interesting option. I look forward to reading the reviews when it comes out. But I love my Mav and I'm 9 years out before I start looking at a new car. I doubt I'll be able to afford this vehicle but EV is in my future and a gas backup may be a stopgap issue until fast charging can be perfected.

As for everyone complaining about a $7,500 tax credit for EVs remember the gasoline in our tanks isn't tax credit free. The US gave $760 Billion in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry in 2022. https://www.reuters.com/business/en...dies-rise-despite-calls-phase-out-2023-11-23/

Finally an EV I can appreciate. I never understood why every manufacturer doesn't build their EVs with small range extender ICEs. Electric motors are much more efficient and simple powertrains, but the battery technology just isn't completely there yet. I am fine with a battery for daily use, but I like to take road trips, and I don't want to have to stop and wait hours for a charge. If the range extender can keep me driving (or give me piece of mind for SHTF) then I'm all in.

I like the Mav because it seems sincere. It just does things without trying to be a fashion accessory. I hope the same is eventually true with the Scouts.
